My Twin Sister Stole My College Admission Chapter 08
[We’re on campus at Stanford. Elena, where are you? We need to talk. Now.]
I let out a cold sneer and immediately deleted the message.
Out on the stage, the master of ceremonies took the microphone. “And now, please welcome our freshman class representative, Elena Sterling, to the stage.”
I took a deep, steadying breath and walked out with absolute poise.
“Hello, everyone. My name is Elena Sterling, and I traveled here from a small household in Denver. Today, I don’t want to talk about academic achievements or future career prospects. Instead, I want to talk about childhood… and how the environment we grow up in permanently shapes who we become…”
“In closing, I genuinely wish that every single one of you finds the strength to reclaim your own narrative.”
The auditorium fell into a dead silence for two seconds.
Then, a massive, thunderous wave of applause erupted across the hall.
“Oh my god, Elena’s backstory is devastating. I can’t believe a family could actually treat a child like that.”
“Right? I can’t even imagine how much pure grit it took for her to survive and escape that environment. Wow…”
As the whispers echoed, the four members of my biological family were standing at the very back of the auditorium, staring blankly at the radiant, brilliant figure standing center-stage under the spotlight.
Logan was completely stunned. It took him a long time to find his voice. “Is that… Elena?”
The timid, invisible girl who barely occupied any space in the house?
My parents exchanged a look, both seeing a complex mixture of unfamiliar emotions in each other’s eyes.
But Chloe, watching the admiration of the crowd and looking at the girl on stage, was literally grinding her teeth in pure, vitriolic jealousy!
That spotlight was supposed to be hers!
The moment the convocation ended and I stepped out of the hall, a sharp voice cut through the
afternoon air.
