My Sister Reborn Took My Groom Chapter 12
I didn’t expect the tables to turn so incredibly fast.
I hadn’t been back in D.C. for long when my dad called.
He told me the Cole family was in massive trouble.
Just a few days ago, while the Coles were hosting a lavish banquet, a group of collectors suddenly
burst through the doors.
They trashed the venue, and Harrison was physically injured in the chaos.
Before leaving, the men spray-painted the walls in bright red: CROOKED BUSINESSMAN, PAY YOUR
DEBTS!
Even though the thugs were quickly arrested, the incident became public knowledge overnight.
The Coles completely lost face.
Yet Mrs. Cole, still blind to the reality of the situation, ran around telling everyone that jealous
rivals were targeting them out of spite.
Her words had barely left her mouth when local police and federal marshals showed up at their
doorstep.
They didn’t just take Harrison into custody; they froze and seized every single asset under his name –including that Bentley the neighbors had been drooling over.
Hearing this, I knew my suspicions were correct.
Owen’s predatory financing ring had collapsed.
Harrison was likely deeply entangled. He wasn’t just a victim; he was likely an active accomplice,
which was why the authorities detained him for investigation.
Supposedly, Mrs. Cole had wept and screamed, trying to physically block the officers from taking
her son, but her efforts were entirely futile.
Seeing the chaos, Yvonne had rushed forward in tears to comfort her.
But Mrs. Cole slapped her hard across the face, pointing a finger and screeching at her.
“You greedy leech! If it weren’t for your expensive taste and constant demands for luxury, my son
would still be teaching safely at the university! Why else would he risk everything in New York? You
ruined him!”
She threw the entirety of the blame for Harrison’s downfall onto Yvonne.
Yvonne was completely stunned. She never expected her normally doting mother-in-law to turn on her so violently.
In fairness, Yvonne had been luckier than me in the beginning.
As the cherished woman Harrison had always regretted losing, he treated her like royalty.
Mrs. Cole, being sharp, hadn’t wanted to alienate her son, so she had held back her true nature and treated Yvonne with a level of respect she had never shown me.
Now, her mask had simply shattered.
But Yvonne, raised by a woman like Sadie, wasn’t about to suffer in silence. She immediately
slapped Mrs. Cole right back.
Harrison’s two younger sisters had taken expensive gifts from Yvonne, calling her their favorite person, but seeing their own mother assaulted changed everything.
They lunged at Yvonne, and the women devolved into a massive physical brawl.
The police hadn’t even driven out of the neighborhood yet. They immediately turned around, broke up the fight, and hauled the entire family down to the station.
The Cole family was officially the laughingstock of the town.
That evening, after listening to the whole story, Aiden let out a mocking scoff.
“Harrison was just a standard university instructor. He went to New York with zero connections, zero capital, and zero network. Why on earth would a major player just hand him a fortune on a silver platter? He was clearly set up as the fall guy from day one.”
I raised an eyebrow but kept quiet.
In reality, it wasn’t exactly like that.
Owen hadn’t lied about one thing-New York was full of genuine opportunities. Countless people became overnight millionaires.
Harrison’s real misfortune was running into a predator like Owen the moment he landed.
Combined with his own arrogance, vanity, and desperation for quick cash, his downfall was
inevitable.
If Harrison had been willing to build his foundation brick by brick, starting with basic e-commerce
retail like he did in my past life, his ending might have been entirely different.
