My Cruel Bestie Mocked Me to Please His Muse, Unaware I Was Flying to Harvard with a True Genius Chapter 02
Jasmine shot me a sarcastic look.
“Class president, I lost sight of you a little while ago and thought you’d left already. Why are you sitting here? You weren’t just sitting here waiting for Zach to come out and walk you home, were you?”
A few of Jasmine’s friends standing nearby covered their mouths and snickered.
“Some people really have no shame.”
“You couldn’t stand the atmosphere back there, so you snuck out — were you trying to get the school heartthrob’s attention?”
“Just as I thought — she’s full of schemes.”
“Exactly. How else could she have stuck to him like a leech for all these years?”
“That level of shamelessness? You can’t just pick that up.”
A hint of smugness flashed across Jasmine’s eyes.
Zach, however, listened to it all with a cold expression.
“Sophie, I’ve told you before — can’t you just give me a break and leave me alone?”
“I’m waiting for someone.”
I was still sitting on the steps, staring at the intersection.
“Don’t be ridiculous.” Zach was the first to laugh. “All these years, who else has been by your side besides me? Who are you waiting for? You’re not waiting for your dad to pick you up, are you?”
I pressed my lips together and said nothing.
Someone noticed the awkwardness and quickly changed the subject.
“Since everyone’s had a few drinks tonight, how are you guys getting home?”
“I’m driving, but I called a driver.”
“I’ve already hailed a cab.”
In the end, only Zach and Jasmine remained.
Jasmine was flushed from drinking, and someone suggested, “Zach, we’re counting on you to take Jasmine home.”
The guy glanced at me and continued, “But Sophie and Jasmine are going in opposite directions. Who are you planning to drop off first?”
“Jasmine, of course.” Zach spoke without hesitation. “Sophie, since you like the cold breeze, why don’t you stay here and enjoy it a little longer? I’ll drop Jasmine off first, then come back for you.”
As he spoke, he wrapped his arm around Jasmine, turned, and opened the car door.
“No, thank you.”
Just as I spoke, the car door closed.
No one could hear me.
Jasmine sat in the passenger seat, buckled her seatbelt, and waved at me triumphantly.
“Sophie, we’ll be heading out first, then.”
I didn’t say anything. Zach glanced at me and drove off with his foot on the gas.
The next second, a black car pulled up in front of me and rolled down the window.
“Get in.”
