My Childhood Friend Spoiled My Admission Dream Chapter 07
“Caleb, it’s okay… didn’t you say you could always take a gap year and reapply?”Â
Vivian still hadn’t realized how fatal those words were.Â
She clung to Caleb’s hand, crying so hard her makeupÂ
smeared.Â
“You said I just made a mistake. Why couldn’t you be understanding? Didn’t you say if it happened to you,Â
you wouldn’t blame me?”Â
Caleb suddenly shoved her away.Â
Vivian stumbled, nearly falling, but still tried to moveÂ
closer to him.Â
“Caleb, we can still go to Riverstate together. I’ll stayÂ
with you.”Â
Caleb raised his hand.Â
Slap.Â
The sound exploded through the microphone.Â
Vivian covered her face in disbelief. “You hit me?”Â
Caleb’s eyes were bloodshot. “You ruined me.”Â
“Vivian Hart, you ruined my entire future.”Â
Vivian cried even harder. “I didn’t know it was yourÂ
account! If I knew, why would I have changed yours?”Â
“I just wanted to teach Audrey Sinclair a lesson. WhyÂ
does she get everything? Why have you always revolvedÂ
around her since childhood?”Â
Pain twisted across Caleb’s face. “So you did it onÂ
purpose?”Â
Vivian shook her head frantically. “Not on purpose to ruin you.”Â
“I did it on purpose to ruin her.”Â
The auditorium completely exploded.Â
Derek rushed onto the stage, shaking with fury.Â
“Vivian, do you even understand how seriousÂ
tampering with applications is?”Â
“It’s illegal, and you’re still sitting here crying?”Â
Vivian immediately dropped to her knees and grabbedÂ
at his pant leg.Â
“Mr. Bennett, my family’s really poor. I can’t go to jail. What about my little brother?”Â
“I’m not a bad person. I was just scared to go to thatÂ
kind of school alone.”Â
Derek violently shook her off.Â
“So because you were scared, you thought you could destroy someone else’s life?”Â
Then he turned toward Caleb. The disappointment inÂ
his eyes was so heavy it looked like he could barely stayÂ
standing.Â
“And you.”Â
“What did you say in the group chat yesterday?”Â
“You told Audrey to be understanding. Told her to takeÂ
a gap year. Told her not to make a big deal out of it.”Â
Caleb lowered his head without saying a word.Â
Derek suddenly slapped him hard across the face.Â
“I taught you for three years, and this is what you turned into?”Â
“You joined forces to slander her, saying she threwÂ
away her future for some delinquent.”Â
“Now the truth’s right in front of everyone. How do youÂ
still have the nerve to stand on this stage?”Â
Caleb’s head tilted from the force of the slap.Â
Slowly, he looked at me. “Audrey… I was wrong.”Â
“Please help me.”Â
Hearing those words didn’t feel satisfying.Â
It just felt ridiculous.Â
“How exactly am I supposed to help you?”Â
Caleb hurried after me. “Your family has connections.Â
Please, ask your parents to contact Harvard’s admissions office and explain that someone tampered with my application. This wasn’t my fault.”Â
His voice turned desperate. “I’m supposed to go toÂ
Harvard. I was always supposed to go there.”Â
I looked at him calmly.Â
“If the applications that got tampered with had really been mine, would you have helped me contactÂ
admissions?”Â
“Would you have believed me?”Â
“Would you have made Vivian take responsibility?”Â
His lips turned pale. “That’s different.”Â
“How?”Â
His voice dropped so low it was almost inaudible. “I’mÂ
a guy.”Â
“I can’t afford to have my future ruined.”Â
That sentence made everything clearer than all hisÂ
previous favoritism combined.Â
Someone in the audience cursed loudly. “What a pieceÂ
of trash.”Â
Vivian suddenly screamed. “What right do you have toÂ
blame me?!”Â
She pointed at Caleb hysterically.Â
“Last night, who was the one saying Audrey’s rich and could just study abroad?”Â
“Who said going to Riverstate would just be ‘a novel life experience‘ for her?”Â
“You didn’t care because you thought the ruined futureÂ
belonged to her instead of you!”Â
Caleb spun around furiously. “Shut up.”Â
Vivian completely snapped. “No! I won’t!”Â
“If you really cared about justice, why didn’t you callÂ
the police last night?”Â
“You protected me because you felt sorry for me!”Â
Caleb lunged at her like he wanted to hit her again, butÂ
security guards rushed forward and stopped him.Â
His voice cracked apart in front of the entireÂ
auditorium.Â
“I felt sorry for you?”Â
“You manipulated me!”Â
“You kept crying about being poor and miserable. You kept saying Audrey looked down on you.”Â
“You used me like a weapon and hacked my future toÂ
pieces!”Â
Vivian shouted back through tears. “And you let me!”Â
“If you’d trusted Audrey even once, would any of thisÂ
have worked?!”Â
Caleb froze completely.Â
The entire auditorium had descended into chaos.Â
I walked to the front of the stage, bent down, andÂ
picked up the Riverstate Technical College acceptanceÂ
letter, then I handed it back to him.Â
“Caleb, I remember every word you said last night veryÂ
clearly.”Â
He looked up at me with dark eyes.Â
I placed the letter into his trembling hands.Â
“Enjoy your little romance with Vivian at Riverstate.”Â
His fingers shook violently.Â
The acceptance letter slipped from his hand and fell toÂ
the floor.Â
Then Caleb dropped to his knees. He raised his handÂ
and slapped himself hard across the face.Â
“Audrey… I am truly sorry.”
