My Best Friend Stole an Heir, So I Cleared House as the Lawful Wife Chapter 06
“And choose your words carefully. Otherwise, I will have the consigliere hand the evidence to the detectives and the FBI, and you can explain yourself to them.”
Panic flashed across Vera’s face. She stammered for a long time before forcing herself to lift her
chin.
“That night, you were drunk. You mistook me for Olivia.”
Before Damian could speak, I snapped.
“Bullshit. Damian is allergic to alcohol. He doesn’t drink. Not one drop.”
A faint smile moved through Damian’s eyes. He lowered his head and pinched my cheek. He was too tired to argue with Vera. He lifted one hand and signaled the consigliere to call the detective.
“Then say it to the detectives.”
Vera immediately made herself look weak. Tears filled her eyes.
“This is our biological child. Damian, can you really be so cruel and reject him?”
Damian did not even look at her. He only gave the compound address in a cold voice. Seeing that he
meant it, Vera softened at once.
“No. Don’t call the police. I’ll talk.”
At last, she was afraid. The truth came out fast. When Damian had been sent for a full family medical exam, Vera had disguised herself as a clinic nurse and stolen his biological sample. Damian’s expression darkened. Disgust filled his eyes. Everyone in the room was too shocked to speak. Even then, Vera still had the nerve to defend herself.
“Who told Olivia to sit in the Donna’s chair when she couldn’t even give the Family an heir?” she said. “That was Don Vito’s estate. That was power over the Moretti family. Who here didn’t want it?
I was only braver than the rest of you. I knew how to fight for a position.”
I laughed.
“Cut the crap. Don’t dress up shamelessness as ambition. Others may have wanted the estate too, but they didn’t sink this low. I’m ashamed I ever called you my best friend.”
Vera still wanted to argue, but Damian did not give her the chance. He called the soldiers in and had them restrain her until the detectives arrived. After dealing with Vera, Damian turned to his
parents. Nicholas and Donna Serena became obedient the moment they saw him. Camilla looked
uncomfortable and spoke first.
“Vera lied to us. We had no idea. We were deceived too.”
Damian’s eyes went cold. He had been unhappy with his relatives for a long time. Three grown adults, and not one of them had done anything real for the Family. When Don Vito was alive, they clung to him and fed off him. Now Don Vito was gone, and they had turned their greedy eyes to his estate. Before this, everyone had kept peace on the surface. At least they still had a little dignity. But Damian had been gone only three months, and they had bullied me to this point. Everyone in the room wore a different expression. They were all waiting for Damian to speak. The consigliere, who had watched the entire scene from the side, finally asked, “Should we continue with Don Vito’s inheritance procedure?”
“Continue. Of course continue,” Donna Serena rushed to say, afraid Damian would refuse.
She understood his personality too well. To protect me, he might directly give up the estate. Damian was about to speak. I held his hand and shook my head.
