Mission Fail: Kill Me Now Chapter 05

Mission Fail: Kill Me Now Chapter 05

The feeling of weightlessness hit me, but I didn’t die. At some point, the firefighters had arrived and deployed an air cushion below.

“We got a call half an hour ago saying someone was going to jump. Good thing we made it in time.”

Hearing the relief in the firefighter’s voice, Leo came rushing downstairs. When his gaze landed on me, it

turned ice-cold.

Hannah covered her mouth in mock surprise as she said, “So you had already called the firefighters? Were you just putting on a show for them? You really scared me just now. I thought when you pushed me, you actually wanted me dead. Besides, you know I have a heart condition. Falling from that height could’ve killed me from shock alone. Do you really hate me that much?”

She looked at Lucas with a mixture of relief and resentment, her eyes red.

“I’m not afraid of dying. I just can’t bear to leave you. But Chloe loves you so much. If I died, she would definitely take good care of you.”

Lucas immediately pulled her into his arms, then turned to me with undisguised hatred.

“Chloe, if anything had happened to Hannah, I would never have let you off!”

He strode forward and kicked me hard in the leg. Those legs of his, once atrophied for years, had fully recovered. He kicked so hard that it knocked me straight down onto one knee.

I looked up at him, but he stood there with a dark expression, shielding Hannah behind him. Yet, when I helped him walk again, he had told me he would protect me for the rest of his life.

After Lucas was paralyzed in a car accident, the Lindt family had abandoned him like a discarded pawn. At his lowest point, I chose to be engaged to him and help him stand again. He once said I was the only love of his life, but that so-called love changed three days after he met Hannah.

Lucas brought me back to the residence. The four men stood there, each with their own thoughts, all staring at me.

With a long face, Lucas took out a video from a few years ago.

“You think curing my legs means you’ve done me some great favor? If you hadn’t committed a hit-and- run back then, would I have become disabled in the first place? Hannah knew you were the one who fled the scene, but considering you’re family, the first thing she did after getting this video was beg me not to call the police. She’s always thinking about you, and yet you keep hurting her again and again!” he said to

Leo and the other two already hated me because of past misunderstandings. After hearing this, their gazes grew even colder, like they wanted to tear me apart with their eyes. Any trace of softness from Casey and Finn also turned back into anger.

“The car in the video belongs to the Jones family. What else do you have to say?”

Lucas snorted and paused the footage. The license plate wasn’t clear, but the car model was unmistakable. It was the one Casey had given me as a coming-of-age gift.

“The car is mine,” I said, “but I never drove it. I gave it to Hannah.”

As everyone turned to look at her, Hannah quickly masked the panic in her eyes from seeing the video. Tears welled up as she put on a pitiful expression.

She explained, “I recognize the car because I’ve driven it before, but I wasn’t the one driving it that day. If taking the blame for Chloe will ease things, then you can say it was me. But Chloe, you have to promise me that you won’t secretly drive out again in the future. What if something worse happens?”

The moment she said that, everyone became even more convinced that I was the one behind the wheel.

I didn’t bother explaining. Instead, I handed the video to Casey.

“You tell them,” I said. “Was I the one driving that day? You should know better than anyone.”

Perhaps sensing that I truly wanted to die, he didn’t let me take the fall this time.

After struggling for a moment, Casey finally spoke, his voice heavy. “It wasn’t Chloe driving that day.

Hannah’s face turned pale, her lips nearly bitten through.
