Imprisoned, Poisoned, She Took His Throne Chapter 01
I’d had three miscarriages, and my mental health kept getting worse and worse; I’d attempted suicide several times.
My husband took me to our summer house in Newport, hoping that a change of scenery would help me get better.
After saying goodnight to me today, he forgot to hang up the phone.
I didn’t remind him; I wanted to fall asleep to the sound of his breathing.
Then a mocking voice came from the other end.
“Don Vitale, shouldn’t we stop Elena’s psychotropic medication? At this dose, if we don’t stop it, she might end up with more than just depression—she could lose her mind.”
Luca Vitale said casually:
“She deserves to go crazy. That’s for calling Giulia a bastard born of a prostitute in front of everyone, and to pick on her every single day?”
……
I suddenly opened my eyes.
The voice on the other end of the line kept going.
“What if Elena finds out? After all, she’s a Salerno, and she still has a few loyal old-timers under her command.”
Luca chuckled lightly, his tone brimming with disdain.
“She’s nothing but a wreck now, completely out of it. Even if she told the Salerno guys that I’m drugging her, who would believe a crazy woman?”
“But isn’t making her have three miscarriages a bit too much? After all, Don, you need an heir.”
“Is she worth my child? Only Giulia is worthy of bearing the Vitale family’s heir. What she carries in her womb is nothing but a mistake.”
Giulia.
The people I hate most in this world were her and her mother.
Back then, Giulia’s mother—a prostitute—crawled into my father’s bed and stole the Salerno family’s secrets, which got my father assassinated—his car was blown up, and his body was in pieces.
My family then killed her mother in retaliation.
From then on, whenever Giulia and I met, you could smell the tension.
We’ve been married for three years, and Luca had always stood firmly by my side.
Giulia isbanned from all of the Vitale family’s clubs, casinos, and luxury stores.
In front of me, he never treated Giulia well; he even once threw a drink at her.
He said, “My wife’s enemies are my enemies. I won’t let anyone bully the woman I love most.”
Those words were still ringing in my ears.
But now, the one who’s really hurting me was, of all people, the man I loved most.
It felt as if the air had suddenly grown thin; I gasped, but still couldn’t catch my breath.
The voice on the phone went on.
The man continued to ask Luca, “Since you’ve fallen for Giulia and youhate Elena so much, why not divorce her?”
Luca replied coldly, “If she weren’t the Principessa of the Salerno family—and had a little bit of value—I would’ve kicked her out long ago.”
“She’s already so severely depressed—aren’t you afraid she might kill herself one day?”
Luca chuckled softly.
“She’s tried to kill herself many times, but didn’t she fail every time? You don’t know how much she loves me. Every time she reached the point of no return, she said she always thought of me, and then she just couldn’t go through.”
I couldn’t listen anymore, so I just hung up.
I got up right away and changed my clothes.
I contacted the butler: “Arrange a helicopter for me; I need to return to the main estate on Long Island.”
The butler looked a little surprised, and he advised me:
“Donna, Don specifically requested that this place be quiet, as it’s ideal for your recovery. If you ever get bored, you’re welcome to take a walk by the beach.”
“Don’t make me say it again.”
I cut him off coldly.
Seeing that I seemed genuinely angry, the butler immediately nodded repeatedly.
“Okay, Donna, but before I do that, I need to check in with Don Vitale first.”
Five minutes later, Luca called.
