I Was His Wife, She Was His Everything Chapter 08
Veronica’s face drained of color.
“You… What are you doing?”
I gave her a cold smile.
“Nothing. I’m just livestreaming.”
I angled the phone toward her.
“But, Miss Thorne, I have to hand it to you. Your little schemes are impressive. Everyone’s getting
quite an education today. The livestream is blowing up.”
Veronica lunged at me like a madwoman, reaching for my phone.
Before she could touch me, Ethan kicked her aside.
She screamed in fury.
“How dare you livestream me without my permission? I’ll sue you!”
I smiled.
“Go ahead. I’d love to face you in court and go over everything again.”
The fight went out of Veronica all at once.
She collapsed onto the floor.
At that exact moment, a nurse walked in carrying my medication.
“Ms. Miller, these are your medications for today. Make sure you take them on schedule.”
I accepted the medicine and nodded.
But Veronica suddenly charged toward me again.
“What? You’re really pregnant?”
I looked at her without answering.
Ethan stepped between us, his expression icy.
“Veronica, you’re still worried about whether my wife is pregnant?”
His voice was merciless.
“You embezzled company funds. You unlawfully took my property. And you deliberately spread false accusations about my wife. You’d better start worrying about finding yourself a good lawyer and figuring out how you’re going to explain all of this to a judge.”
Veronica was dragged away by the security guards.
Under Ethan’s orders, I was transferred to a private luxury suite.
It had everything I needed. For the first time in what felt like forever, I could finally rest
comfortably.
But after everything that had happened, I still didn’t know how I was supposed to face Ethan.
He brought me a glass of milk and held it out to me.
“The doctor said your body is severely depleted. You shouldn’t overdo it with heavy food right now.
Drink some milk first.”
I didn’t argue.
I was carrying a baby, and I was genuinely starving.
The milk was warm. I drank half the glass in one sitting.
Ethan stood beside my bed and watched me quietly.
“Clara, I’m sorry.”
His voice was low.
“This past year was my fault. Veronica lied to me, and I believed her. She told me you were angry
with me and didn’t want to see me. There were so many times I was afraid to even come home
because I thought you’d hate having me around.”
He paused.
“I’ll make it up to you and the baby. I’ll spend the rest of my life making things right. Just give me
one chance.”
I leaned back against the headboard.
“You did keep your promise in one way. You really did transfer money to me every month. That’s
true.”
Nooked at him.
“But it’s also true that you believed Veronica without question. You let her control everything while
I suffered.”
My voice remained calm.
“I collapsed from low blood sugar because I was starving. I was pregnant and severely malnourished for months. You weren’t there for me. You didn’t take responsibility for any of it.”
I stared directly into his eyes.
“You can’t erase all of that with a simple apology.”
Ethan lowered his head.
“Okay. I understand.”
He took out a black card and placed it in my hand.
“There’s ten million dollars in this account. Use it for whatever you need. If you spend it all, I’ll put
more in.”
He seemed afraid I’d refuse and quickly added,
“I know you’re still angry with me. But you’re still my wife. You have every right to spend my
money.”
I stared at the card, my emotions tangled.
“Ethan, I haven’t decided whether I want to continue this marriage.”
And there was something else I still hadn’t figured out.
I didn’t know whether I wanted to keep the baby.
He spoke softly.
“Okay. I won’t pressure you.”
He looked at me.
“As long as there’s still a chance that you’ll forgive me, I’ll do whatever it takes.”
Half an hour later, Nora rushed into the room.
The moment she saw Ethan, she didn’t even bother hiding her contempt.
“Well, well. If it isn’t the CEO of Hayes Group. What brings you here? Did you go bankrupt?”
She looked him up and down.
“Oh, my bad. I forgot. You didn’t go bankrupt. You’re just too damn cheap to spend money on Clara.”
She rolled her eyes.
“What a piece of work.”
Ethan didn’t defend himself.
He didn’t argue with her or even try to retaliate.
“You two talk. Call me if you need anything.”
He quietly walked out of the room.
It was the most humbled I’d ever seen him.
Nora rolled her eyes after he left.
“Look at him, acting all devoted now. Where the hell was that devotion when you actually needed
him?”
Then she threw herself onto my bed, crying so hard she could barely speak.
