I Take the Fall, but They Pay the Price Chapter 08
To help Megan recover from that ordeal as quickly as possible, I made a private arrangement with Sam.
I promised that if he agreed to make Megan the president, I would stay and help turn into the most profitable division in the
company.
Unfortunately, that chapter of my life ended just like our marriage had.
After seven years, it came to an abrupt end.
I said calmly, “It’s all in the past. There’s no need to bring it up.”
Peter wisely fell silent.
Sam glanced at Megan, growing angrier the more he thought about it. “You took a perfectly good company and turned it into a complete mess!
“Not only did you allow employees to frame their colleagues, but you even had the nerve to fire one of the people who built this branch! If anyone deserves to be fired, it’s you!”
With that, he immediately ordered Peter to publish an announcement on the company’s website and group chat, formally removing Megan from her position as president and clearing my name.
Finally, he instructed HR to terminate both Megan and Liam.
The company would also pursue them for massive financial damages and hold them legally accountable for their actions!
Megan had never experienced anything like this before.
She immediately panicked and desperately begged Sam to give her another chance, promising she would never do it again.
However, Sam remained unmoved.
When that didn’t work, she came running to me instead. “Flynn, please talk to Mr. Davis. If you help me keep my job, I’ll make our marriage public right now! I’ll never see Liam again!”
I pulled my hand away. “Megan, did you forget something? I want a divorce. I want to get as far away from you as possible.”
She refused to believe me. “That can’t be! You love me so much. You’ve been putting up with the way I’ve treated Liam all this time. Now that I’ve promised never to see him again, how could you possibly leave me?”
I felt like I heard the most ridiculous joke in the world.
So, she was aware that she had treated Liam too well all this time?
Even Alan could not bear to listen anymore. He kindly reminded her, “Ms. Grant, you seem to have forgotten that Liam will be facing prison time very soon. You won’t be able to meet him even if you wanted to!”
Megan pursed her lips, evidently about to argue again, but Sam had finally had enough.
He simply waved his hand and had security remove her.
Megan’s desperate screams gradually faded, and there was finally silence.
Before I left, Sam suddenly suggested that I take over as president of the branch.
I shook my head. “I’m sorry, Mr. Davis. I’ve given up on this company. I can’t bring myself to go back. Besides, I’ve already accepted an offer from another company.”
Sam knew that someone with my abilities would have no trouble finding another position.
That was why he rushed over the mornent he heard what happened to stand up for me.
He just hadn’t expected someone else to snatch me up after a single night.
The realization that he had lost one of his best employees because of Megan and Liam only made him angrier.
In the end, he took his frustrations out on the branch itself.
He announced that the entire branch would be shut down!
From then on, I focused on settling into my new home and getting started at my new company.
To keep Megan from harassing me, I blocked her on all my social media platforms.
Now and then, I would hear news about what happened. When the branch was shut down, many of the employees were stunned.
Once they learned that Megan and Liam were responsible for everything, they were furious.
They bombarded the pair with calls and messages every day.
Megan had been so shaken that she had nearly stepped into traffic one day.
Eventually, HQ pursued legal action against her.
However, since she was not the one who misappropriated the company funds, she ultimately avoided prison time.
Even so, she had to pay enormous damages as compensation and ended up selling all her assets.
