I Stumble Upon My Girlfriend’s Wedding Chapter 07
Third–Person POV
It wasn’t until the following afternoon that Madeleine returned to the Petty residence.
“Are you done throwing a tantrum? I can’t believe you actually had the nerve to storm out of the birthday dinner yesterday. You’re truly something else!” Tamara snapped coldly.
“Abandoning your own family for some lowlife? How did I even end up with a daughter like you? Go apologize to Richard right now!”
But Madeleine merely replied, “I want a divorce.”
Tamara stared at her in disbelief. “Have you lost your mind? You want a divorce? For some random man? Everything aside, Rick is your husband now. Have you forgotten what you promised us?”
“You all arranged this!” Madeleine snarled angrily. “When did any of you ask what I wanted? You said I had to enter into a marriage alliance five years ago. You even used er’s family to threaten me!”
“Enough!” Tamara growled, slamming her hand on the table. “What nonsense are you spouting? Making such a fuss over a man? Aren’t you embarrassed?”
“Jer’s dead!”
Silence fell over the living room.
Tamara’s expression changed a few times before she finally let out a dismissive snort.
“If he’s dead, he’s dead. What’s the point of you making such a scene? Just give his family some money as compensation and be done with it. What? Are you supposed to pay with your own life?”
Just then, Richard walked downstairs.
“Honey.”
“Don’t call me that!” Madeleine screeched, her eyes blazing with fury. “From this day forward, the marriage alliance between our families is void. We’ll never do business with you again!”
Richard’s expression stiffened instantly, while Tamara shop to her feet.
“How dare you? Do you think you can make decisions for this family alone? The marriage alliance was jointly decided by the boards of both families‘ companies. What gives you the right-”
“Mom,” Madeleine interrupted coldly, “if you say another word, I won’t mind removing you from the board too.”
The sheer coldness in her eyes startled Tamara. She had never seen Madeleine like this before, not even when she was forced into this marriage. Back then, she’d simply accepted it in silence.
“And everyone who is responsible for Jer’s death… I won’t let any of them off the hook!”
True to her words, Madeleine contacted official media outlets and brought the news of Jeremy’s suicide into the national spotlight. Then, following the trail of evidence, she eventually uncovered the mastermind behind everything.
Piece by piece, evidence of Richard having hired online trolls and viral marketers surfaced.
Public opinion shifted almost instantly. The same people who had viciously attacked Jeremy were now turning their outrage on Richard, condemning him for his cruelty.
But Richard was still a Morris. Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, he remained completely unfazed.
“You can’t touch me, Madeleine Petty,” he said, smiling nonchalantly. “The Morris family’s legal team isn’t just
for show.”
However, the very next day, Morris Group’s stock came under a massive short–selling attack, sending its share price into freefall.
Immediately after, a years–old commercial bribery case involving Richard’s father, Wayne Morris, was unearthed, and the case was forwarded straight to the district attorney’s office.
The entire Morris family was thrown into chaos. They ran around trying to call in favors, only to discover that every single avenue had been completely shut off to them.
A week later, Wayne was taken in for investigation. Morris Group’s board of directors called an emergency meeting and removed him from his position as chairman.
Only then did Richard finally panic. He rushed to Madeleines office to see her, but she just threw him out mercilessly.
Meanwhile, the Petty family had also terminated all business relationships with the Beale family, sending the latter’s business into a nosedive. Banks started calling in their loans, suppliers cut off deliveries, and clients canceled their orders one after another.
Sid’s father, Ethan Beale, ran himself ragged trying to find someone willing to take over the company, but all his efforts were to no avail. In the end, he had no choice but to declare bankruptcy.
Sid went from a wealthy heir living in luxury to a man drowning in debt overnight. Even the engagement he’d worked so hard to secure was called off.
Each man suffered a fate worse than the other.
