I Drugged the Snake Beast Alpha… And the System Screamed I Chose the Wrong Mate Chapter 05
We rushed to the settlement gates, and there she was: Chloe, alive and standing on her own.
A stranger trailed behind her. He was slender, almost delicate, beautiful in a way that made people
look twice.
Silas was at Chloe’s side in an instant, checking her over for injuries. Then his gaze cut to the
stranger.
“Who is this, Chloe?”
Chloe’s eyes dropped, guilt flickering in them.
“His name is Julian. He’s from the merman clan. He’s… my new mate.”
Silas went rigid.
“You’ve already bonded?”
Color rose in Chloe’s cheeks, and she nodded.
Silas’s gaze locked onto Julian Hayes. Something dangerous flashed in his eyes.
“Chloe, why is he looking at me like that? He’s scaring me.”
Julian clung to Chloe’s arm, his eyes wide and innocent.
Chloe stepped in. “Silas, don’t scare him.”
Silas lost it, right there in front of everyone.
[The love triangle is WILD, but the ML is getting absolutely wrecked out here.]
[The FL only has two mates so far? According to the book, she ends up with SEVEN. Oh, it’s about to
get so much worse.]
[Side character, you’re over here enjoying the drama, but once the FL collects all seven? That’s when YOUR storyline ends. As in, you die.]
I stared. My mind was just a blank slate of sheer disbelief.
First of all, I hadn’t bothered anyone. Second, I was minding my own business. And third, I was literally just existing.
So how exactly did this end with me dying?
Whatever. If I was doomed anyway, I might as well have some fun.
i crossed my arms and turned to Silas.
“Chloe’s back in one piece. I believe you owe me an apology.”
His face twisted.
“Forget it.”
Something blurred past me. Rowan’s kick caught Silas square in the chest and sent him skidding
across the dirt.
Rowan stood over him, his voice as flat as stone.
“Apologize.”
“Since when do you take orders from Sloane? She used to hate your guts. If I hadn’t turned her down, you never would’ve stood a chance.”
The words hit their mark. Rowan’s gaze darkened for just a second, but his voice didn’t waver.
“Apologize.”
[Poor baby is SHATTERING. Somebody hold this man together.]
[Side character, go comfort him RIGHT NOW. He’s easy, I promise. One kind word and he’ll melt.]
Something squeezed tight in my chest. I didn’t even know why.
My hand moved before my brain caught up. I smacked Silas across the face.
“Shut your mouth. I must’ve been out of my mind to ever look twice at someone like you.”
He took the hit. Then, somehow, he laughed.
“Is that what this is, Sloane? Playing hard to get?”
“I’ll admit, it’s working.”
[Arrogant. Mediocre. Slimy. Someone throw this whole man away before I lose my appetite.]
[This man is oozing so much slime I need a shower. The absolute ICK.]
[Somebody hand this man a mirror. The delusion is incurable.]
I was winding up for a second one when Chloe stepped between us.
“Please, leave him alone. I’ll apologize for him.”
“He’s only acting like this because of me. He didn’t mean what he said.”
Tears spilled over Chloe’s lashes and trailed down her cheeks. Julian reached over and gently wiped them away.
Silas watched the two of them, his expression darkening.
“I don’t need you to apologize for me.”
He turned to me.
“You used to want me, didn’t you, Sloane? Well, here’s your chance.”
Chloe paled. Her eyes flooded with hurt.
[STAY AWAY FROM HER!]
[These two are UNHINGED. Don’t drag our girl into your toxic little game.]
[“I’ll give you a chance”? THE NERVE. I’m going to be sick.]
[She’s fake and he’s worse. They deserve each other.]
A laugh tore out of me before I could stop it.
“That’s cute. Really. But I wouldn’t take you if you were the last shifter alive.”
“You are not half the man my Rowan is.”
Rowan’s head snapped toward me. His eyes were blazing, raw, open, completely unguarded.
That look nearly singed me.
[The puppy is SO easy. One compliment and he’s wagging so hard he’s about to take flight.]
[She said “MY Rowan” in PUBLIC and this man’s soul just left his body.]
[He’s already naming their future cubs in his head. I guarantee it.]
I grabbed Rowan’s hand and pulled him away.
He didn’t say a word the whole walk back, but the tips of his ears were burning red.
“Rowan, I’m hungry. What are we eating when we get back?”
“I… what do… what do you want to eat?”
[Rowan’s brain right now: “TALK. Say something she wants to hear. WHY CAN’T I TALK?”]
[So whipped.]

I thought for a second. “Let’s do mushroom and venison stew.”
