I Called Dibs on Mr. Jackpot Chapter 04
“Then… what about the dare?” I asked.
“I planned that too.” Ezra Everton smiled a little. “How else was I supposed to get a shot at making you my girlfriend? Even if it was only for one day.”
I couldn’t speak.
My heart was going insane.
“Mia.” He said my name softly. “Your one-day girlfriend trial is almost over. I’d like to renew my subscription.”
He paused.
“For life. Think I can get that chance?”
He pulled a ring box from his pocket.
Then opened it.
It wasn’t some giant diamond.
Just a silver ring with a unique design, a tiny paint palette engraved into the band.
“I designed it myself. It’s not as expensive as the jewelry Lisa gave you, but-”
I cut him off and held out my hand. “Put it on.”
Ezra froze.
Then his whole face lit up,
His fingers shook as he slid the ring onto mine.
Perfect fit.
“That’s a yes?” He still sounded stunned.
I wiggled my fingers. “You’re this sincere, so… yeah. I’ll say yes.”
“And-”
I rose onto my toes and kissed the corner of his mouth.
“I want to renew too.”
The comments instantly exploded-
(AHHHH SHE KISSED HIM!!!]
(Shippers, assemble!]
(Ezra, pull yourself together! She made the first move!]
[Kiss her already!!!]
His eyes darkened.
He cupped the back of my head and kissed me back, taking over instantly.
The kiss hit harder than I expected.
Like every feeling he’d been holding in finally broke loose at once.
My knees almost gave out grabbed his collar to steady myself.
The paintings around us stayed silent, watching everything.
When we finally pulled apart, Ezra rested his forehead against mine, breathing unevenly.
The usual lazy look in his eyes was gone.
They were red and intense, like he wanted to devour me whole.
“Mia.”
His voice came out rough. His thumb brushed my earlobe without him even noticing. “You’re not allowed to look at other guys. And don’t draw them either.”
I didn’t even know how to respond.
So this was rich-heir possessiveness.
I was just about to call him childish when my phone started vibrating like crazy in my bag.
I pushed him back and grabbed it.
Ezra frowned and leaned closer again. “Why are you checking your phone right now? Focus.”
I ignored him.
Because the comments had completely taken over my vision, giant red letters flashing across it-
[CONGRATULATIONS!!!]
[Male lead Ezra Everton’s love meter has exceeded max capacity!]
(Hidden fortune unlocked!]
(Massive asset transfer in progress… 3, 2, 1!]
Then a bank notification popped up:
(Deposit Alert: $10,000,000.00 has been credited to your account ending in 8888 on May 5. Memo: Future Mrs. Everton Fund.)
Six zeros.
Seven zeros.
Ten million?!
I froze.
My hand went numb.
And my phone slipped from my fingers.
Ezra caught the phone smoothly, glanced at the screen, and raised a brow.
“That was quick.”
I pointed at the notification, barely able to speak. “Th-This… was that you too?”
He slipped the phone back into my hand and intertwined our fingers.
“Not me.”
Seeing how confused I looked, he leaned closet with a smile. “My grandpa. The cameras here connect to his study. He was probably watching us just now.”
His smile widened a little.
“Looks like he’s pretty happy with his future granddaughter-in-law.”
I sucked in a breath.
So this whole family was in on it?
The comments completely lost it-
[LMFAO the final boss wingman is Ezra’s grandpa.]
[$10 million?! Is this how rich families operate?!]
[Mia’s inner voice: Retirement plan secured.]
[Ezra’s probably thinking: Future wife, you’re definitely not escaping now.]
For $10 million?
Forget running.
If Ezra asked me to carry him home right now, I could haul him up five flights of stairs without even breathing hard.
I tightened my grip on his hand, eyes practically glowing with loyalty. “Please thank your grandpa for me. I’ll take really good care of you.”
Ezra laughed and pinched my cheek. “You little gold digger.”
