I Am Not An Omega, I Am The Queen Of The Deep Sea Chapter 08
“Mother…” Alaric’s voice shook. “Is it really you?Â
How can that be…?”Â
Torren chimed in too. “You… you’re real?! I thoughtÂ
you were just a legend…”Â
Morrigan hugged her shark plushie, looking both hopeful and thrilled. “Mom… I never knew you could be this powerful…”Â
“Thalassa…” Vaelor opened his mouth, his voice soÂ
hoarse it was almost unrecognizable. “I…”Â
I heard every word they said. But there was no joyÂ
in seeing them again. I stood above them andÂ
looked down.Â
Vaelor met my eyes for a few seconds. Then he did something no one expected–he dropped toÂ
his knees.Â
The wolves‘ eyes went wide. They couldn’t believeÂ
what they were seeing. The strongest Alpha in theÂ
north was kneeling in front of everyone.Â
“Alpha Vaelor!”Â
“Dad!”Â
Alaric rushed over to help him up. Vaelor shovedÂ
him away.Â
“Don’t touch me.” Vaelor’s voice was low.Â
“Thalassa. I was wrong. Come back with me,Â
okay?”Â
“Come back?” I laughed. “Back where? Back to your little cabin?”Â
“Not a cabin.” Vaelor shook his head. “You can doÂ
whatever you want. You want to attend council meetings? Go ahead. You want to go to the beach? Go ahead. I’ll never stop you again.”Â
“Oh?” I raised an eyebrow. “Then what do you wantÂ
me to go back and do? Keep being your Luna?Â
Keep cooking for you, raising the kids, gettingÂ
laughed at during banquets?”Â
Pain flashed across Vaelor’s face.Â
“The people who laughed at you,” he said through,Â
gritted teeth, “I’ll make them pay.”Â
“Hah.” I let out a single laugh. “Vaelor. Let me askÂ
you something.”Â
“Are you regretful now because you realized youÂ
lost someone you love? Or because you realizedÂ
I’m powerful?”Â
Vaelor opened his mouth. Nothing came out.Â
“Don’t bother answering,” I said. “Your silence isÂ
answer enough.”Â
“No, that’s not-”Â
“Enough.”Â
I turned around. Stopped looking at him.Â
Cassian walked up from the side and stoodÂ
beside me.Â
“This is the strongest Alpha in the north?”Â
Cassian’s voice was low, but you could hear theÂ
sarcasm dripping off every word. “Kneeling thereÂ
in the water like that–he’s not even as impressiveÂ
as a damn jellyfish.”Â
“What did you say?!” Torren lunged forward. AlaricÂ
held him back.Â
Cassian didn’t even glance at Torren.Â
“At least jellyfish have some sting,” CassianÂ
continued his mockery. “What about you? YouÂ
can’t even protect your own pack. You’re downÂ
there on your knees, playing the victim, hoping Her Majesty will take some pity on you?”Â
Vaelor’s fists clenched. Veins popped on the backÂ
of his hands.Â
“Shut up.” His voice was barely audible.Â
“Did I say something wrong?” Cassian spread hisÂ
hands. “You can’t even beat me in a fight right now,Â
can you?”Â
Murmurs rippled through the hall. Alphas fromÂ
other packs whispered to each other, clearlyÂ
enjoying the show.Â
Morrigan stood off to the side, clutching her sharkÂ
plushie. “Mom…” Alaric grabbed her hand andÂ
shook his head.Â
Vaelor slowly lifted his head.Â
“Thalassa. I’m not asking you to forgive me.”Â
He paused.Â
“But please… at least think about the children.”Â
I stopped walking.Â
“What they’re going through,” Vaelor’s voiceÂ
trembled. “You can feel it, can’t you? They’reÂ
hurting too.”Â
I turned around and looked at my three children.Â
Alaric stood in the water, pale, his lips bloodless.Â
Torren stood behind Alaric, leaning against a pillar.Â
His breathing was fast.Â
Morrigan was the most obvious. Her face wasÂ
white as paper, her lips cracked.Â
After the Sea God’s blessing left them, theirÂ
bodies had been suffering the backlash.Â
I was silent for three seconds. Then I raised my hand. A silver–blue light flowed from my fingertipsÂ
toward the three children.Â
Morrigan blinked. Her thirst vanished. “Mom…”Â
I lowered my hand. “Your suffering is gone,” I said flatly. “From now on, you won’t be affectedÂ
anymore.”Â
“Vaelor. Our relationship ends here.”Â
“I’ll choose a new consort for myself.”Â
“And that person. Will definitely not be you.”Â
Vaelor knelt in the water, all the strength drainedÂ
out of him.Â
“Guards. Escort these wolves out of the hall.” IÂ
gave the order coldly.Â
The guards guided the wolves toward the exit. Alaric led Morrigan. Torren followed behind. Morrigan kept looking back at me, tears streaming down her face. But she didn’t call “Mom” again.Â
She probably understood by now.Â
Some things can’t be fixed just by saying “Mom.”Â
After they left the hall, I turned to face theÂ
remaining guests.Â
“Everyone.”Â
My voice carried through the entire hall.Â
“At today’s feast, I only want to announce one thing. We, the sirens, are back.”Â
“The Shadow Trench is my territory. No species will violate our borders. If they do, they will faceÂ
the sea’s revenge.”Â
I gave a slight nod, turned, and walked up to theÂ
throne at the back.Â
Cassian followed behind me, standing at the sideÂ
of the throne, one hand on his sword hilt as heÂ
scanned the room.Â
“Your Majesty,” he said quietly. “That thing you mentioned earlier… about a consort…”Â
“What about it?”Â
“Do you… have someone in mind yet?”Â
“Not sure yet,” I said. “But someone seems pretty interested.”Â
Cassian immediately turned his head away, his voice muffled. “I don’t.”Â
“I said ‘someone,” I laughed. “I didn’t say it wasÂ
you.”
