His Assistant Called Me Ugly, So I Toppled His Dark Empire Chapter 06
Leonardo flicked the ash from his cigarette, staring at Isabella with contempt.
“I let you send those messages because I hoped they would quiet you down and stop pestering me.
“I took you shopping and let you film videos on purpose, just to make her jealous. I hit her to stir up trouble between the two of you. I signed those divorce papers because I knew you would never really leave me.”
“I was a little interested in you once, but that feeling is completely gone now.”
“If
you feel wronged, go to the finance department and collect your severance pay.”
“Now get out. Don’t make me repeat myself.”
Isabella clenched her fists, hatred burning in her eyes.
She walked out of the office. The other crew members standing at the door mocked her openly. She was
utterly humiliated.
Isabella left with red eyes. She glanced back at the tall building one last time. The man behind the floor-to-ceiling windows looked utterly cold and indifferent.
She turned away unwillingly.
For half a month, I traveled to many places: the Bahamas, Mexico and Saint Barts. I finally settled in Las
Vegas.
I was playing cards at a poker table in Caesars Palace with new acquaintances when Chiara’s calls kept
popping up.
I walked to a quiet corner and answered the phone.
“Sophia, you won’t believe what’s happened!”
“Leonardo has searched everywhere for you. He finally came to me, begging me to tell him your whereabouts
nonstop.”
“I sent him away immediately. He stood outside my place all day, soaked through by the heavy rain ”
“He even slapped himself a hundred times, saying he would repay your humiliation tenfold. In the end, the security guards chased him away, and I heard he fainted and was sent to the emergency room.”
“By the way, why haven’t your fathers withdrawn the money yet? I can’t wait to see him fallen from power.”
I let out a helpless laugh. “When my fathers saw the slap marks on my face, they said they wouldn’t let him
off so easily. They want to let him relax for a while before striking hard.”
Chiara was filled with excitement and was about to speak, when a shout came from downstairs.
“He’s back again!” she said. “I’m going down to deal with him. I’ll call you later.”
The call ended. I couldn’t help but laugh.
A soft chuckle sounded behind me. I turned around, and my smile faded the moment I saw Enzo.
He was a friend of Marcus, my first adoptive father, and the eldest son of a Boston mafia family.
Marcus sent him to stay by my side right after I returned to New York, claiming he was here to help me heal
from heartbreak.
I didn’t need anyone’s comfort at all.
I turned and walked forward quickly. Enzo followed closely behind.
“Don’t follow me,” I said. “I don’t need your company.”
Enzo raised an eyebrow. “I can’t go against the task your father assigned me.”
