He Was Never Shy, Just Not With Me Chapter 06
I didn’t turn on my phone until I had finally unpacked my bags at the hotel.
A dense wall of text messages and missed call notifications instantly flooded my screen.
Almost all of them were from Logan Reynolds’s family and friends.
Even his parents, who had never liked me from day one, had fired off a long, frantic string of
messages.
While I was skimming through them, Logan’s name flashed on the screen as his call came through.
I picked up, and his voice sounded exactly as it always did.
“Nora, when exactly are you planning on coming home?”
I cut right through his superficial pleasantries.
“That isn’t my home anymore. You and I are broken up.”
Logan forced a casual laugh, pretending to be relaxed.
“Stop playing around, Nora. I can explain everything. I actually passed out from a severe migraine
caused by working overtime and had to be rushed to the ER. The doctor strictly forbade me from
looking at my phone, which is the only reason I had Hailey text you. Please don’t misinterpret this.”
If this had happened in the past, my heart would have broken for him.
After all, I used to love him with everything I had.
But now, I felt absolutely nothing.
actually felt incredibly pathetic.
“Logan, do you honestly take me for a fool? Your ‘overtime’ excuses have zero credibility left with
me.”
His breathing grew sharp and frantic on the other end of the line.
“It’s the truth! I have the official medical notes from the hospital. Unblock me and add me back, and I’ll send you the photos right now.”
I could hear the frantic rustling of paper as he scrambled to look for something on his end.
That was just how he was-whenever he felt the need to explain himself, he would meticulously gather all kinds of evidence to back up his case.
Years ago, to ensure my father was put behind bars, he stayed by my side, running around with lawyers to gather every piece of evidence to secure a harsher sentence.
And when my college scholarship was wrongfully stripped away, he was the one who helped me track down the proof to get it back, knowing that money was desperately needed for my mother’s
medical bills.
Yet the moment I questioned him about abandoning me for Hailey, he never bothered to prove his innocence; instead, he would immediately turn it around and accuse me of throwing a baseless
tantrum.
I spoke up, cutting him off completely.
“Enough. Do you really still not understand why I cancelled the wedding?”
Logan’s voice instantly went freezing cold.
“Nora Vance, can you stop taking your petty frustrations out on me?”
“If you wanted to clear your head, fine. If you wanted to postpone the wedding, I could have agreed
to that too.”
“But you deliberately kept me in the dark, leaving my relatives and friends to look like absolute
fools in public, and I’m not even holding that against you.”
“As long as you come back so we can have a proper conversation, what is there that we can’t
resolve?”
Logan could no longer contain his raging temper.
For someone like him who had enjoyed a perfectly smooth, successful life, he had never
experienced such a deeply humiliating public moment.
It made sense that he was furious.
“I tried to tell you about the cancellation, but you were entirely too caught up in Hailey’s drama to
! notice-how is that my fault? You didn’t come home or contact me for days on end-how is that my
fault?”
“If you had cared even a fraction of an amount, if you had just remembered to go pick up the wedding rings, you would have known that I called off every single arrangement days ago!”
Logan fell into a long, heavy silence.
He was completely speechless.
Then, pretending as though nothing had happened, he shifted back into a cold, transactional tone.
“I already told you that whatever is going on between us has absolutely nothing to do with Hailey I have never once been unfaithful to you.”
He sounded entirely confident, as if his technical fidelity were something to be profoundly proud of.
“Don’t you just want me to have dinner with your circle of friends? I’m telling you I agree to it, okay? I’ve already reserved a private room at the Triumph Restaurant for three days from now. I’ll be waiting for all of you.”
“After that, we can sit down and iron out the new details for the wedding.”.
He spoke with absolute certainty, completely sure of his play.
Yet I only felt a sharp pang of bitter sorrow for him.
If this had been two years ago, I might have actually compromised.
But now, there wasn’t a chance in the world.
“Since you’ve never wanted to meet my friends from the very beginning, then you never have to meet them for the rest of your life.”
“And as for the wedding, it’s completely unnecessary.”
