He Spoiled Me for Three Years… Because I Look Like the Woman He Couldn’t Have Chapter 04
His brows drew together.
“Sienna, we can’t keep this baby right now.”
“Elowen is pregnant too. She has severe clinical depression. She can’t handle any kind of shock.”
I stared at the man in front of me in disbelief.
She was pregnant too?
So they had been sleeping together long before this.
Nausea surged up my throat, and I bent over, retching.
He reached out and rubbed my back.
I shoved him away. “This is my child. It has nothing to do with you.”
Callum gently wiped the tears that had gathered at the corners of my eyes.
“Listen to me. End the pregnancy.”
He sighed, as though he were coaxing someone too childish to understand reason.
“We can have another baby later. I’ll spend the rest of my life making this up to you.”
I took a step back, avoiding his touch.
“I told you, I’m filing for divorce. And this baby is mine.”
Behind him, Elowen chose that exact moment to clutch her chest and let out a weak, pained breath.
Callum’s expression sank.
He waved directly at the security detail behind him.
“Take Mrs. Whitaker to the operating room. Get the best doctor.”
Several guards stepped forward at once and seized my arms.
I fought with everything I had, but it was useless.
In the end, they forced me into a private hospital suite and locked me there to wait for the procedure.
Tears slipped from the corners of my eyes as fear and helplessness swallowed me whole.
The door opened.
It was Elowen.
I glared at her with hatred.
She looked down at me with a cruel little smile.
“Did you really think a used-up woman with baggage like you could give birth to the Whitaker heir? Dream on.”
“If you didn’t have a face that looked like mine, do you really think you could have gotten anywhere near Callum?”
The moment she finished speaking, she raised her hand to slap me again.
This time, I bit down hard on her hand and did not let go until I tasted blood.
Furious, she shouted for the doctor, “Do it now. And don’t give her anesthesia.”
The procedure began.
The doctor, clearing his throat and looking away under the heavy pressure of the Whitaker security detail, bypassed the localized numbing.
I screamed until my voice tore apart, watching as my child was ripped out of my body.
The pain was everywhere, inside and out.
Then I passed out from the sheer divorce lawyer.
When I woke again, waves of cramping pain twisted through my uterus.
I stared at the ceiling as tears kept spilling down my face.
My child was gone.
In the room next door, Callum and Elowen laughed together, already dreaming about the new life she was carrying.
I wiped the wetness from my face and made a call to my contact.
“I’ll work with you,” I said. “Meet me by the beach.”
Numbly, I returned home and went straight to Callum’s study.
I took a tiny USB drive from my pocket and plugged it into his private laptop.
After thinking for a moment, I entered a date.
The password was correct.
It was the day Elowen had nearly gotten him killed at sea.
But there was a second password.
I tried several combinations. None of them worked.
Finally, as if possessed by some bitter instinct, I entered our wedding anniversary.
The screen unlocked completely.
I could not help laughing at the bitter irony.
What a ridiculous kind of devotion.
The progress bar moved quickly as the confidential corporate files from the firm began to copy.
Alone, I went to a secluded beach outside Harbor Point.
Whenever I was hurting, I came to look at the ocean.
Suddenly, footsteps sounded beside me.
“So it really was you, Sienna Vale. Looks like that person didn’t lie to me.”
A greasy male voice brushed against my ear.
I turned my head, and my pupils shrank.
Brock Harlan.
My ex-husband from Riverton City, the nouveau riche thug who had treated me like nothing but a body to use.
Instinctively, I tried to back away.
“Why are you here? How did you find me?”
Brock looked me up and down, then gave me a filthy smile.
“Sienna, long time no see. You’ve only gotten prettier since you left me.”
“I heard Callum dumped you. Why don’t you come back to me? I promise I’ll make every day feel unforgettable.”
