He Sent an Intern to Meet His Parents, I Sent Him a Wedding Invitation Chapter 07
The next morning, Zachary’s wedding car pulled up right on time.
In a shower of petals from my friends and family, Zachary took my hand.
But right as I was about to step into the car, someone blocked the way.
“Zachary Flynn!”
Brandon grabbed Zachary by the collar and punched him hard in the face.
I rushed in front of Zachary. “Brandon, have you lost your mind!”
“Megan…” Brandon’s eyes were red-rimmed. “You can’t marry him.”
“Why not?” I said coldly. “We love each other. Our families support it. What’s the problem?”
“Love each other…” Brandon looked like he couldn’t believe it. “But you and I…”
“I tried to tell you.” I looked at him. “That day you said you were taking Jenny to Miami. I told you. But you were too drunk celebrating her promotion to hear me.”
Brandon tried to remember. In the blurry fragments, he did recall someone saying something about going on a trip with someone else.
He had never thought I would actually leave him. He hadn’t even bothered to ask who the other
person was.
“Zachary Flynn is not a good man.” Brandon grabbed my hand. “Megan, I was wrong. I shouldn’t
have treated you like that.”
“Let’s get engaged right now. No, let’s get married. I already sent Jenny away. I won’t treat you like that ever again. Ow!”
Zachary grabbed Brandon’s wrist and twisted it behind his back.
Sweat formed on Brandon’s forehead, but he kept staring at Zachary.
“You drove away a woman you were with for ten years, Brandon. You don’t deserve her.”
“I don’t deserve her? And a playboy like you does?”
Zachary flinched.
Brandon looked at me. “Megan! He’s not faithful! He knows how to manipulate women. Don’t let,
him fool you!”
Zachary’s face turned red with anger.
I stepped between them and looked at Brandon. “I know who he is. But that’s none of your business
anymore.”
“Megan!”
“Zachary, let’s go.”
Zachary’s tense expression softened. He looked at me seriously and nodded. “Yeah.”
“Megan, don’t trust him! He’ll break your heart! Megan!”
I didn’t look back.
Zachary was furious. “Get him out of here!”
“Zachary!”
They dragged Brandon away.
In the wedding car, my phone kept buzzing with messages from Brandon, all about Zachary’s
history with women.
Zachary covered my phone screen. His voice shook. “Megan, I’ve dated a lot of people in the past. None of my relationships lasted more than three months.”
“But I never cheated. I ended things cleanly. Don’t listen to him…”
I looked at him and patted the back of his hand. “Did you really think I would marry you without doing my research first?”
He blinked in surprise.
“I know about your reputation, Zachary. And I’m still choosing to marry you. So don’t worry about
what he says.”
His eyes glistened. “Thank you. I… I really do like you. A lot.”
I smiled and nodded. Almost thirty years old, everyone has a past.
Someone like me, who stayed with the same person since college, ten years without a break, I wa the unusual one.
If ten years of love couldn’t last, why should I judge someone else?
And besides, even if Zachary had been a player, so what?
Marriage between adults isn’t only about feelings.
