Eight Months Pregnant, He Signed For My Death Chapter 03
The housekeeper rolled her eyes, went upstairs, and came back with a kraft envelope. She tossed it straight at me.Â
I picked it up, opened it, and pulled out the report inside. MyÂ
gaze landed on Caleb’s name.Â
Azoospermia.Â
A silent laugh slipped past my lips.Â
This was the premarital medical report from ten years ago,Â
when I married Caleb.Â
The moment I’d received it, my emotions had been a mess. IÂ
hadn’t known how to tell him.Â
A man as proud as Caleb… how could he ever accept somethingÂ
like this? How would his competitors use it against him, tearÂ
him down piece by piece?Â
But the doctor had told me something else. A secret.Â
“Ms. Rhodes, your physiology is extremely rare. You canÂ
activate non–motile sperm. Mr. Vance is very lucky to haveÂ
you. In all my years, I’ve only seen a case like yours once.”Â
Back then, I had decided to bury the truth. Let it die with me.Â
Never let Caleb find out.Â
I never imagined there would come a day when I would exposeÂ
it myself.Â
I dug out the last of my loose change, went to a print shop, and made over a dozen copies of the report.Â
Then I handed them to a courier.Â
Each envelope was addressed to a company that stood in directÂ
competition with Caleb, along with the private contact detailsÂ
of their CEOS.Â
“Please deliver these as quickly as possible,” I said softly.Â
“Just tell them it’s a gift from Mrs. Vance. They’ll tip youÂ
well.”Â
Caleb.Â
This is my final gift to you before I leave.Â
I hope you enjoy it.Â
After leaving the house I once shared with Caleb, I returned to the tiny apartment where we had started everything ten yearsÂ
ago.Â
Back then, we had nothing.Â
We lived in one of the worst parts of town, crammed into a rundown rental with peeling walls and flickering lights.Â
The conditions were terrible.Â
But we were happy.Â
So poor we survived on discounted, near–expired food from the mall. Caleb would lie to me, saying he’d already eaten at business dinners, just so I would take the last portion.Â
And in the middle of the night, I would always catch him standing by the sink, drinking tap water one glass at a time toÂ
fill his stomach.Â
We even held our wedding here.Â
No ceremony. No guests.Â
Just a plain silver band that cost less than twenty dollars.Â
This place meant everything to me.Â
Even after we moved into a luxury villa in Emerald Cove, I secretly bought this apartment and kept it.Â
I used to imagine that one day, when Caleb and I were old, we would come back here and spend our final years together.Â
I never thought that when our marriage finally fell apart… IÂ
would be the one returning here alone.Â
I twisted the doorknob and pushed the door open.Â
And froze.Â
Two bodies were tangled together on the couch.Â
The matching sleepwear Caleb and I once wore, carefully preserved in the closet, was now on him and Lexi.Â
My mind went blank. The words burst out before I could stopÂ
them.Â
“Caleb Vance! How could you bring her here? You know this place is our-”Â
Before I could finish, Lexi suddenly slapped herself across theÂ
face.Â
The sharp crack echoed through the room.Â
She stepped in front of Caleb, her cheek already swelling red, tears brimming in her eyes as she glared at me.Â
“Mrs. Vance, I was the one who begged Caleb to bring me here. I just wanted to understand his past. If you’re upset, I can kneel and apologize. Just please… don’t hurt him anymore.”Â
Caleb’s expression softened instantly. He cupped her face, blowing gently against her cheek, his gaze full of concern.Â
Then he shot a cold glance at the bodyguards behind me.Â
They moved without hesitation.Â
My arms were pinned.Â
A heavy hand struck my face.Â
Once. Twice. Again and again.Â
The world rang in my ears. I lost track of time before they finally stopped and let go.Â
I collapsed to the floor.Â
Caleb looked down at me, his expression indifferent.Â
“Vivian, why do you insist on making things difficult for yourself? If you’re not feeling well, you should stay home and rest. Why chase me all the way here just to start trouble?”Â
A bitter smile tugged at my lips.Â
“Home? Do I still have a home? Is that place still mine?”Â
I lifted my head, eyes burning red. Blood from my noseÂ
dripped onto the floor, mixing with my tears.Â
“Caleb… you can fool around anywhere you want. I don’t care.Â
But why here? Why did it have to be here?”Â
My voice broke.Â
“Thirty–year–old Caleb is already rotten. Why destroy the onlyÂ
thing twenty–year–old Caleb ever left me?”
