Bought a Wolf Pup at the Black Market, Found Out His Father Is Alpha King Chapter 05
Chapter 5 The Fight at School
When I reached the office, Dylan was standing at the door with his chin tipped high like a wolf pup who had just won a duel.
The first thing I did was check him over.
No injuries.
“Why did you hit someone?”
He said nothing.
“Dylan.”
“What, are you going to yell at me now?”
He lifted his chin even higher.
“I knew it. You’re mad. Go ahead. I won’t talk back.”
Listen to that tone.
I took a deep breath and tried to keep my voice gentle.
“Didn’t I tell you not to hit people?”
“I wanted to beat him up. That’s not the same as hitting.”
I gritted my teeth.
“Then tell me why you beat him up.”
“He said I was a bastard with no father.
Said I got dug out of the trash.
Said you bought me because nobody else wanted you.”
I opened my mouth, but something caught in my throat.
“Dylan said when you came to parent day last time, you couldn’t even tell an Alpha from a Beta,” Dylan went on, his voice suddenly thick, though he was trying hard not to cry.
“He said the gift you gave the teacher was homemade cookies, while the other parents gave clan silver.
He also said one day you’d throw me away because raising a wolf pup costs too much, and you’d go marry some human man and have a pure human kid instead.”
I yanked him straight into my arms.
He struggled twice, then went still.
His fists were clenched against my waist, and his body was shaking.
“I’m not crying,” he muttered.
“I know.”
“I’m really not crying.”
“I know.”
That was when a warm voice sounded behind me.
“You’re Dylan’s mother? Hi. I’m Eugene Winterfang, David Winterfang’s uncle.”
I turned around.
A young man in a Darkmoon Beta uniform stood there, a silver Beta badge pinned at his collar.
He had a straight posture and a kind face.
“I’m sorry. My nephew went too far. I already scolded him.”
Eugene glanced at Dylan.
“And to be honest, I think Dylan was right to hit him.”
Dylan looked up at him warily.
“David’s not mad?” Dylan asked.
“He’s doing a punishment stand at home right now,” Eugene said with a smile, then crouched so he was eye level with Dylan.
“But next time, kid, don’t hit the face. Hit the arm. Teachers notice the face too fast.”
Dylan’s mouth twitched.
He almost laughed.
I hurried to apologize, but Eugene waved it off and looked at me.
“Single mother?”
“Yeah.”
“That’s not easy.”
His eyes were gentle.
“If you ever need anything, you can come to me.
Darkmoon isn’t exactly friendly to outsiders, but even we have rules when it comes to widows and children.”
I hesitated, then lowered my voice.
“Eugene… I heard Alpha King Soren lost his son. Is that true?”
Eugene’s smile vanished.
He looked at me once, then lowered his voice too.
“That’s top-level pack business. How do you know that?”
So it was true.
Half my heart went cold.
“But it’s okay,” he added, trying to reassure me.
“We already found the black-market trafficker from back then.
Under questioning, he gave us a lead.
We should get the child back soon.”
The second he finished, my legs gave out, and I dropped right to the floor.
Before Eugene could even react, Dylan had already rushed over.
“I only shoved one classmate! You really think she’d kneel to you over that?”
He glared at Eugene.
“If you’ve got a problem, take it up with me! What kind of man bullies a woman?”
Me: ???
Eugene: I didn’t. I swear I didn’t.
