Her emotions were all over the place. She looked exhausted, almost worn down to the bone, but the moment she saw me, her eyes lit up.
“Thank God… you’re back.”
She forced a smile at me, her eyes already reddening.
“It’s good that you came back. I thought you’d abandoned… the old mansion.
“Now that you’re here, don’t leave again.”
She strode toward me and grabbed my hand.
“Come on, let’s go home.
“Don’t worry, I already drove Ronald away. I exposed his true colors.
“From now on, it’ll just be the two of us, living happily together.
“We’ll find a day and get married as soon as possible.”
The more she spoke, the more excited she became, anticipation practically glowing across her face.
I shook her hand off sharply and let out a mocking laugh.

“I came back because the old mansion is here, not because of you.
“I have no interest in whatever happened between you and Ronald, and I want even less to do with you.
I looked at her coldly, without the slightest warmth in my eyes.
Zoey froze.
She clearly had not expected me to be this heartless.

“Henry, I know I made terrible mistakes before. I hurt you deeply.
“But my love for you has never changed. Please… give me a chance to make it up to you, okay?
“I swear, from now on, you’ll be the only person I treat well.”
Watching her put on this pathetic act made my stomach turn.
“Make it up to me? With what?
“You were the one who sent me onto that auction stage and humiliated me in front of everyone. I barely survived prison.
“You think a few cheap apologies can erase all that?”
A cold smile tugged at my lips.
“Zoey, the biggest regret of my life was being blind enough to ever want to marry you.”
Her face instantly turned deathly pale, her body trembling slightly.
“Henry… I… I really know I was wrong.”
Her voice broke with sobs, filled with regret.
“Everyone makes mistakes. Just give me one more chance. This time, I’ll prove to the whole world that I’m the person who loves you most.”
She grabbed my arm and dropped to her knees.
Suddenly, I laughed.
Hope flickered in Zoey’s eyes.
“You agreed, didn’t you?”
She reached for my arm again, but I stepped aside before she could touch me.
“Ms. Sanders, have some dignity.”
Deliberately, I raised my left hand and revealed the diamond ring on my ring finger.
“I’m already married.”
