After Prison, I Became an Underground King Chapter 08

After Prison, I Became an Underground King Chapter 08

“Time to wake up. The sun’s already shining on your butt.”

Tina burst into the hospital room like a gust of wind.

“You’re not running a fever anymore, right? Hurry up, I’m taking you out for some real food today.”

She pressed a hand against my forehead out of habit, then naturally lifted a cup to my lips and helped me drink

some water.

“Thanks…”

My voice came out hoarse.

After she rescued me that day, I had fallen unconscious almost immediately.

The entire journey back, Tina never let go of my hand.

“You idiot. Why didn’t you tell me any of this sooner? I came too late.”

Her hands were so warm.

They felt like the only thing pulling me back from the dark.

During this period, I had been recovering at the Draven family’s hospital. Most of my health had returned, and even the injuries on my arm had fully healed.

“What’s with the thank you?”

She flicked my forehead lightly.

“You look mostly recovered now. In a few days, we’ll head back and check on the old family estate.”

Tina’s grandfather and mine had once fought in the same military unit. We became friends during a middle school summer camp, but after my grandfather passed away, we gradually lost contact.

Three years ago, after the auction incident, Tina found me again.

She told me she was willing to help me leave Solaria and start over somewhere new.

But back then, I stubbornly believed Zoey would never abandon me.

That one refusal eventually cost me three years in prison.

I pushed those memories aside and looked at her gratefully.

“Good thing I had you. Otherwise I really would’ve lost the old mansion.”

The tips of her ears instantly turned red.

“Stop thanking me already. I told you there were conditions for saving you.

“To shut my grandfather up about marriage, you can only marry me now.

“Don’t worry. If you ever meet someone you truly like, we can just get divorced.”

Seeing how shy she looked, I could not resist teasing her a little.

“Really? In that case, I’ll start keeping an eye out for pretty women.”

The smile at the corner of Tina’s lips froze.

“…Do whatever you want.”

I could not help laughing.

“Relax. I’m not marrying anyone else.”

The day after I was discharged from the hospital, Tina and I officially registered our marriage.

I stared at the marriage certificate in my hands, scratching my head awkwardly. Beside me, Tina carefully reached over and held my hand.

“Let’s go home.”

“Okay.”

I tightened my grip around her warm hand.

Three days later, we returned to the old mansion together. Tina had already hired someone to replace the locks on the front gate, so Zoey could no longer get inside.

Nothing in the house had changed.

The paintings and calligraphy my father left behind, my mother’s embroidery pieces, everything still looked exactly the way it had when I was a child.

After we finished cleaning, I carried a bag of trash toward the front gate.

The moment I stepped outside, the sound of screeching brakes rang out behind me.

Zoey stumbled out of a limousine in a panic, nearly falling over as she stared at me in disbelief.

“It really is you, Henry!”
