After I Learned I Was Going to Be His Ex-Wife Chapter 17

Extra:

Ethan and Emily’s marriage was a matter of perfect timing.

He never thought he would need emotional connection, until someone else started living in his empty house.

At first, Ethan couldn’t get used to it.

Her skirts were too short, her voice too sweet, her presence too warm.

Every time he was around her, he never knew where to look, so he began avoiding her, trying to regain his old composure.

Still, something restless lingered beneath the surface, something he couldn’t understand.

It had to be connected to Emily.

Maybe he just felt like he owed her?

He couldn’t figure it out, so he turned to the internet for answers, only to find everything he read

made even less sense.

What was wrong with people?

But that night, he had a very vivid dream.

The next day, he couldn’t look at her.

If she ever found out what he had dreamed, he was certain she would be disgusted.

Then she said, “Don’t be so formal with me. You’re my husband.”

Ethan froze.

She was right. They were married.

His gaze fell on the chamomile tea, and something in him settled. She was his wife. So why not?

After that day, he started looking forward to coming home.

Because his wife would throw herself into his arms like she had been waiting all day for him, like

sinking into a warm bath.

That was the only way he could describe it. And somehow, all his exhaustion disappeared the moment he held her.

Eventually, Ethan realized. Emily only married him for his face. She didn’t love him.

Looking at her passed out asleep next to him, he couldn’t sleep. Then her hand reached for him. She mumbled, “You’re so handsome.”

Something inside him finally settled.

He only needed to stay handsome. That was enough. He was the husband she talked about. She was

his wife.

Then one day, Emily pushed him away and started avoiding him.

Ethan could barely keep his composure in front of her. But when she wasn’t looking, frustration and anger built up until they nearly consumed him.

Someone else was trying to take her.

He lied about a business trip and followed her instead, determined to find the man who was pulling

her away.

He found him at that cheap barbecue place.

Emily was always a magnet for mosquitoes; her skin was so delicate she would be covered in bites.

couldn’t even take care of her properly. What right did he have?

hed them laughing together.

watched them laughing together, his knuckles tightening around the steering wheel until

y turned white. He almost got out of the car, but forced himself to stay.

If he confronted them, his marriage would be over.

The thought of Emily leaving took his breath away. He decided to do whatever it took to keep her, even if it meant tolerating the other man, as long as she stayed.

When he finally learned it was all a misunderstanding, it felt like he had been given a second

chance.

And when Emily said she loved him too, Ethan knew he was the luckiest man alive.

So lucky that he wanted to tell everyone.

That night, after she fell asleep, he posted:

[My wife loves me. Just so everyone knows.]

The comments flooded in instantly:

[You might want to check your family tree.]

[Delusional again. Your wife is cheating on you.]

[No words. Just go be with her.]

Ethan: [She isn’t cheating. I was just overthinking things. She didn’t even blame me… How can there be someone this good in the world?]

The response was immediate:

[Someone sedate this man.]

[I’m on it.]

He turned off his phone.

Whatever. Not everyone could understand happiness.

Lying beside her, Ethan looked at Emily’s sleeping face and felt, once again, that he could never get enough of her.

A lifetime wasn’t enough.

Nor was the next.

Or the one after that.

Forever.
