After I Learned I Was Going to Be His Ex-Wife Chapter 08

I shoved him onto the couch, my voice cold. “Go to bed if you’re drunk.”

I turned to leave. He grabbed my wrist and pulled me into his arms.

Ethan held me so tight.

I’d never seen him like this before.

I told him to let go. But all I heard was steady breathing.

He’d fallen asleep.

I couldn’t move and muttered complaints under my breath, until my eyelids grew heavy.

And I slowly fell asleep in his arms.

Half asleep, I felt someone whispering in my ear.

I couldn’t make out the words. I thought I was dreaming.

“…Am I not attractive to you anymore?”

I turned over, annoyed he was being loud.

After a long while, I heard a very soft sigh.

In the morning, Ethan was gone.

I took a shower.

The mosquito bites on my body had faded.

There was a faint medicinal scent on the spots that had been bitten.

Ethan had put cream on them, no question.

I looked down.

The sadness I’d been pushing aside finally washed over me.

I hadn’t slept well while I was away. But last night, in his arms, I finally felt at ease.

I remembered after the first time, Ethan said to me, “Emily, I’ll take responsibility for you.”

I was just another responsibility to him. He didn’t love me.

I knew that.

Now that he’d found the person he truly loved, we should part on good terms.

He’d been good to me all these years.

There was no reason to make things hard for him.
