A Regret Named Me Chapter 05

“Janet went abroad for further training?” Shawn couldn’t believe what he was hearing, and his expression stiffened.

Carla nodded. “Yes, she suggested it to Dr. Colton herself.”

She continued, “It makes sense, though. At our hospital, she could only ever be a nurse, and she wouldn’t have much room to grow. After training overseas, things will be different.”

After saying that, Carla turned and walked toward the ward.

Shawn stood there stunned, his ears ringing.

Charles had suggested it to Janet many times before, but she had always refused without hesitation. She couldn’t bring herself to leave him or Nadia.

Even if it meant being a nurse for the rest of her life, she was willing to stay by their side.

“Why did she just leave all of a sudden?” Shawn muttered to himself.

Shawn absentmindedly refreshed his phone, but there were no messages from Janet.

She didn’t even say goodbye.

Just then, Nadia walked over. She was also shocked to hear that Janet had gone overseas for training.

“How could she just leave like that? Without even saying anything?” she asked. “Did I upset her? I’ll apologize to her right now and ask her to come back.”

As she spoke, she called Janet’s number.

No one answered.

Hearing the same automated voice repeat itself, Shawn became even more anxious.

He quickly called Janet from his own phone.

“The number you have dialed is currently unavailable. Please try again later.”

“It’s the same.” Shawn gripped his phone so hard that his fingertips turned pale.

It was as if Janet had suddenly vanished from the world and disappeared from his life.

Seeing the confusion on his face, Nadia changed tactics. “Could Janet be hiding on purpose? Maybe she’s waiting for us to comfort her.

“Think about it. If she really went overseas for training, she would have told us. This doesn’t seem like something she would do.”

Those words seemed to snap Shawn back to reality.

“You’re right,” he said. “Janet would never leave without saying anything. She must just be sulking again. She’s probably hiding in some hotel and crying.”

The atmosphere instantly relaxed.

Nadia made a playful suggestion. “Let’s have dinner at your place tonight. Send her a text, and she’ll definitely come back.”

“Forget her. She can stay mad if she wants.”

Although Shawn said that, he still bought several of Janet’s favorite dishes on the way home.

He even picked up a bouquet of her favorite flowers from a flower shop.

Seeing him go out of his way for Janet, Nadia secretly clenched her fists.

When they got home, Nadia offered to cook, but Shawn had already put on an apron.

“I’ll cook today,” he said. “Janet has been on duty so often lately. She hasn’t eaten my cooking in ages.”

As he looked at the fragrant food in the pot, he seemed to think of the time Janet had run into his arms.

“Nadia, go downstairs and buy me some-”

The moment he turned around, Nadia was already standing behind him.

She was holding a note in her hand. “Shawn, Janet left a note saying she’s breaking up with you.”

Shawn snatched it from her hand. When he saw what was written on it, the spatula fell from his hand.
