A Ghost Stands Between Me And The Mafia Boss I Love Chapter 08
Bianca’s true face was exposed even faster than I expected.
Lorenzo cut off every Vitale family resource she had been using. The Westchester safe house was taken back. The fees that the family’s legitimate gallery had been covering for her stopped. Her security detail was pulled.
Even the art trading channels she had opened using the Vitale name were completely shut down.
Bianca had originally been responsible for handling art middleman deals and passing messages for several family connections.
But what she was truly good at had never been managing relationships.
Once Lorenzo pulled back, she couldn’t hold on for long.
That day, he went with me to NYU Langone for a follow-up.
In the underground parking garage, we ran straight into Bianca.
She was arm in arm with a middle-aged capo from New Jersey, laughing very intimately. When she saw Lorenzo, her smile froze.
She immediately shook off the man’s hand.
“Lorenzo, let me explain.”
She smoothed her hair and ran over.
“I had no choice. The safe house was taken back, and the gallery refused to hold inventory for me anymore. He happens to have the channel I need…”
Lorenzo avoided her reaching hand. His eyes held nothing but disgust.
“Bianca. You disgust me.”
But deep down, he was more disgusted with himself.
Because he finally understood that for a person like this, he had personally destroyed the wife who had once trusted him most.
When Bianca saw that acting pitiful wouldn’t work, the fragile look on her face vanished instantly.
“I disgust you?” She sneered. “What gives you the right to judge me?”
She raised a hand and pointed at me.
“You kept me in the family safe house while playing the devoted husband in front of Celeste. You agreed to Valeria faking her death. You had the lawyers handle her death documents.”
“You’re half the reason Celeste had a breakdown. And now you’re standing here playing the
victim?”
Every word hit where it hurt.
Lorenzo turned deathly pale. He immediately looked at me, clearly afraid these words would set me
off.
But I just stood there, as if watching something that had nothing to do with me.
“Are you done?” I asked Bianca. “Then move. You’re in the way.”
She glared at me for a few seconds.
Finally, she left with that New Jersey man.
Back in the car, Lorenzo’s hands wouldn’t stop shaking on the steering wheel.
He didn’t start the engine. He just pressed his forehead against the wheel.
Muffled sobs slowly rose.
“Celeste.”
“I’m sorry.”
When he looked up, his face was covered in tears.
“I really know I was wrong. You can take revenge on me however you want. Even pull me down from the position of Don. Just give me a chance to make it up to you.”
I looked at him.
“Mr. Vitale.”
The light in his eyes dimmed instantly.
I took a document out of my bag and placed it in front of him.
A draft New York State divorce agreement.
“You know you were wrong. So sign it.”
Lorenzo stared at the document like it was his death sentence.
“I won’t sign.” He pushed the docunient back. “I’m not signing it.”
I put the agreement on the dashboard.
“Fine. Then I’ll have my lawyers proceed directly with litigation.”
I pushed open the car door.
“But starting today, I will never go back to your estate.”
I moved into a small apartment in Brooklyn Heights.
Lorenzo didn’t stop me.
Or rather, he didn’t dare.
He was afraid that if he pushed too hard, I would break down again.
He came every day.
But he only stood downstairs.
As for Valeria, she finally faced the price of her deception.
To get revenge on Lorenzo, Bianca handed over the documents about Valeria’s faked death to rival
families.
The news immediately spread through New York’s underworld.
[Former Moretti family intelligence chief faked her death for years to cover up her son-in-law’s
affair.]
The situation escalated quickly.
Valeria’s original legal identity had already been declared dead. The accounts, insurance, property authorizations, and family trusts under her name had all been redistributed because of the death
record.
Now that she had suddenly “come back to life,” lawyers, banks, and government agencies all got
involved.
Her so-called friends started disappearing one by one. Some older members of the Moretti family
ouldn’t accept that she had used the whole family’s reputation to cover for Bianca.
Even the FBI began looking into whether those fake death documents involved other financial or identity issues.
She truly had nowhere left to go.
That afternoon, heavy rain fell over Brooklyn.
Someone knocked on the door.
I opened it.
Valeria stood outside, completely soaked. The composure she had in the Westchester safe house
was gone.
“Celeste…”
Her knees buckled, and she knelt down and hugged my legs.
“Mom was wrong. I was so wrong. Bianca kept telling me her mother had been killed by family enemies-that she had no one left to rely on.”
“By then I couldn’t have any more children, but I still wanted to raise another daughter.”
“I thought if I treated her a little better, it would be like having two daughters. I never imagined it
would turn into this.”
She looked up. Rain and tears mixed together on her face.
“Please help me. No lawyer will take my case now, and no one in the family will let me come back. If this continues, federal investigators will really show up at my door.”
“Celeste. Save me, please. Okay?”
