I Was His Wife, She Was His Everything Chapter 07

I Was His Wife, She Was His Everything Chapter 07

The screen showed every expense I had made over the past month.

Most of my money had gone to the grocery store near my apartment and the taco truck down the

street.

Almost none of the individual purchases had been more than five dollars.

I pulled up the pregnancy test results I had shown her at the office earlier that day and shoved my phone toward her.

“You accused me of faking pregnancies and bleeding Ethan dry over and over again. So tell me, what exactly do you think this is? Do you want me to call my doctor and have him verify it for you?’

Veronica’s face went pale as she stared at the evidence.

“Ms. Miller, all of this could have been fabricated. You can’t just blow through money on your own and then expect me to take the fall for you.”

I pulled up the security footage from my house.

The footage showed Veronica directing several workers as they carried away every valuable item

inside my home.

“What about this? Does Ethan know you emptied his house?”

Ethan’s voice turned cold.

“I’d like to know that too. What exactly did you do with all those things?”

Veronica lowered her head. Clearly, she had never expected me to have cameras installed

throughout the house.

“Mr. Hayes, Ms. Miller sold her handbags first to pay back the money. I was worried she’d sell

everything else in the house too, so I had the workers move the valuables somewhere safe. I was

only looking out for you.”

Ethan glanced at her.

“So where are they?”

Veronica bit her lip before forcing out the answer.

“At my house…”

I almost laughed.

She had claimed she was afraid I’d sell everything, yet she had taken the leather sofas, smart appliances, designer jewelry, and luxury handbags and moved them straight into her own home,

Apparently, she had planned to get every last bit of use out of them.

Just then, Carter walked in and dropped a thick stack of documents onto the table.

“Ethan, I dug into everything.”

He opened the file.

“Veronica Thorne transferred nearly forty-five million dollars from the company’s restricted

account over the past year. None of it went to Clara. The money was transferred into accounts

belonging to Veronica’s mother and younger brother. She also used company funds to purchase two luxury estates, worth nearly twenty million dollars combined.”

Every transaction was documented in the files, including the date, amount, and destination.

And every single expense had been labeled:

[Clara Miller living expenses.]

Veronica had been using my name to funnel the money away.

Carter looked furious.

“And that’s not even the worst part. Clara received only six thousand five hundred dollars for living

expenses over the entire year. She was pregnant, too. I honestly don’t know how she survived on

that. No wonder the doctor said she was severely malnourished.”

Ethan flipped through the documents one page at a time.

When he reached the final page, he grabbed the entire stack and threw it straight into Veronica’s

face.

“What exactly do you have left to explain?”

Veronica realized she was losing control of the situation.

Tears rolled down her cheeks.

“I just couldn’t accept it. I spent three years working at Hayes Group. I spent three years by your

side, too. And you never appreciated anything I did for you. Instead, you turned around and married some woman whose background you didn’t even know.”

She stared at Ethan, her voice filled with resentment.

“You gave someone who didn’t even work three million dollars every month. What did she ever do to deserve that? Why did you treat her like she was so precious?”

I clenched my jaw.

“So that’s why you never told Ethan about any of my requests over the past year?”

My voice shook with anger.

“I told you I wanted to get a job. I told you I wanted to go back to graduate school. You kept all of that from him. So I was forced to sit at home and do nothing with my life while living on the five hundred dollars a month you gave me?”

Veronica’s expression twisted with hatred.

“Yes. That’s exactly what happened. You’re nothing but a useless woman. Why should someone like you get everything Mr. Hayes gave you?”

Ethan’s hands curled into fists, the veins standing out across his knuckles.

“So what does that make you?”

His voice was dangerously quiet.

“You stole millions from the company without authorization. You took my property without permission. And you still think you’re entitled to stand here and claim you deserve anything?”

Veronica finally abandoned all pretense of dignity.

She rushed forward and wrapped both arms around Ethan’s legs.

“Ethan, I’ve been with you for three years. I know everything about you. I’m the only woman who belongs at your side. I admit I took the money. I’ll give every penny back, I swear. Just divorce her.

Please. You can have all of it back.”

I watched her sob against his legs, putting on her most helpless, heartbroken act.

Then I smiled.

I turned my phone’s camera toward her.

“So you’re admitting it?”
