My Husband Told Me To Go West And The Comments Said Don’t Chapter 04
Serena glanced at the dead child, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of her mouth.
She turned to me, calm and composed.
“Ms. Clarke, Evan is Leo’s father. What possible motive could he have for deliberately misleading you?”
“Everyone knows how much he treasures that boy.”
“And besides—how did you know there was someone on the other road?”
Her voice dropped, laced with mockery.
“Don’t tell me you used this chance to go save some other man’s kid?”
She twirled a strand of her hair, smirking.
“I…”
Before I could finish, Captain Hayes put a hand on my shoulder. His face was grim.
“Luna, she has a point. How did you know there was someone on the other road?”
“What’s your relationship with the person you saved?”
“I…”
The words stuck in my throat.
His expression darkened.
“Our mission was to rescue the child Mr. Roth reported. If you used this operation to save an undisclosed child—someone you have a private relationship with—and didn’t inform the team beforehand, that could be considered negligent homicide.”
“She’s a murderer!”
Evan’s voice broke, raw and savage.
“She asked me for confirmation over and over! She deliberately ignored what I told her!”
“How could you do this?!”
One of the villagers stepped forward, furious.
“That was your own son! Who sacrifices their own kid for some bastard?!”
“Even if you wanted to save that bastard, you should’ve reported it! What if we’d sent another team to the other road?!”
“You’re so selfish!”
Someone lost it.
They shoved me hard.
Captain Hayes tried to block them, but the crowd’s rage was too much to hold back.
“Kill that bitch! She abandoned her own son for some bastard!”
“I saw that child—I cried! So small, died on that mountain road, never even got to see his mother!”
“Hey! Stop! Everyone calm down!”
The rescue team scrambled to keep order.
Evan’s eyes were bloodshot as he stared at me.
“You don’t deserve to be a mother.”
“Everyone, shut up!”
I finally grabbed a megaphone.
I turned to Evan.
“Are you sure the kid I saved is a bastard?”
“Of course!”
Evan gritted his teeth. “Otherwise, Leo wouldn’t be dead!”
“But Leo is in the hospital right now. So where’s this bastard you’re talking about?”
“The hospital?”
Evan let out a cold laugh.
“If Leo’s in the hospital, then who the hell is lying here?!”
He pointed furiously at the body on the ground.
I walked over.
I pulled the shroud off the child’s head.
“Luna, what are you doing?! He’s dead—stop making a spectacle of him—”
His voice died in his throat.
Evan stared at the body.
Frozen.
Serena, who’d been watching the whole circus with amusement, went pale.
“Noah!”
