My Husband Told Me To Go West And The Comments Said Don’t Chapter 05
Serena threw herself onto the child.
All her composure was gone.
She frantically wiped the grime from his face. When she saw the tear mole at the corner of his eye, she nearly collapsed.
“Noah!!”
“How could it be you?! How could it be you, Noah?!”
“You were supposed to be in the hospital! Why are you dead?!”
Evan stared at the scene, his face ghost-white.
“No…”
“This can’t be…”
“Mr. Roth.”
I looked at him, cold smile on my lips.
“You said you told me East Ridge, and I went to West Ridge instead.”
“If that’s true, then why did I bring back your son and mine?”
Evan’s face drained of color.
“Maybe… I misremembered.”
I turned and said a few words to Captain Hayes.
He quickly radioed the team that had pulled the body out,
“It came from West Ridge,” they confirmed.
Everyone’s eyes went wide.
Captain Hayes turned to Evan, frowning.
“You’re sure you told Luna to go to East Ridge?”
Evan couldn’t form a complete sentence. “I…”
“Think carefully before you answer, Mr. Roth.”
“If you told her East Ridge, and she went to West Ridge, then why is the child on West Ridge dead
Evan couldn’t get a word out.
Captain Hayes let out a cold laugh.
The villagers finally caught on.
“Oh, so you’re the one who messed up the rescue!”
The same people who’d been furious at me moments ago now turned their anger on him.
“Who’s this kid that died on West Ridge? Is he your bastard with another woman?”
“You knew your bastard was on West Ridge, so you told Luna to go there-tricked her into saving your kid. Then when that didn’t work, you flipped the story and played the grieving father?”
The crowd swelled. Journalists aimed their cameras at him.
But earlier, when they were coming after me, Captain Hayes and the team had at least tried to step
Now they just walked away to tend to the wounded.
“And you!”
A middle-aged woman suddenly pointed at Serena, still sobbing.
“Don’t tell me this kid is yours and his!”
“Did you two plan this? Get the wife to save your son?!”
“Of course they did! We all saw her smug face earlier-she thought her own kid wasn’t the one who died. She was ready to throw Luna under the bus!”
“That bitch is the worst! Don’t let her get away with it!”
“Stop! All of you, stop!”
Evan, who’d been speechless just moments ago, suddenly exploded.
Ignoring his injured leg, he shoved through the crowd like a man possessed and planted himself in front of Serena, shielding her.
“I said stop!”
The scene descended into chaos.
i stood at the edge of it all, watching Evan grit his teeth and shield Serena with his body.
A bitter laugh escaped me.
There was a time when he would’ve protected me like that too.
The police showed up and finally pulled everyone apart.
Serena’s hair was a mess. Her collar was torn. She knelt by her son’s body, shoulders heaving with
sobs.
Evan had blood at the corner of his mouth. He took off his jacket and draped it gently over her
shoulders.
Then he looked up.
And met my eyes.
I laughed-cold and quiet-and walked away.
When I got home, I gathered everything. All the evidence. All the records. I sent it all to his
company.
A few days later, his boss reached out.
“Luna. I got your complaint.”
