My Childhood Friend Spoiled My Admission Dream Chapter 08
“What’s point of saying sorry?”Â
Caleb’s father, Victor Vaughn, arrived, his first wordsÂ
draining the last bit of color from Caleb’s face.Â
Victor stormed onto the stage, grabbed Caleb by theÂ
collar, and slapped him again.Â
“I spent years and money raising you, not so you couldÂ
lose your damn mind over some poor girl.”Â
Caleb went stiff. “Dad, please help me. There’s still aÂ
way to fix this.”Â
Victor was so furious his hands shook. “Fix it?”Â
“The official system is locked. The entire schoolÂ
already saw the admissions record live on screen. HowÂ
exactly do you plan to fix that?”Â
He sneered coldly. “Weren’t you acting allÂ
understanding earlier?”Â
“Didn’t you say you were happy to give the opportunityÂ
away?”Â
Caleb lowered his head completely.Â
The second Vivian saw Victor, she crawled toward himÂ
on her knees.Â
“Sir, I’m sorry. I really didn’t mean it.”Â
“My family’s poor. Please don’t call the police. I’ll doÂ
anything for Caleb in the future.”Â
Victor kicked her away without hesitation.Â
“You destroyed my son’s future.”Â
“Not a meal. Not a shirt. His future.”Â
By then, school security had already called the police.Â
The officers entered the auditorium, and VivianÂ
panicked so badly her voice almost disappeared.Â
“Don’t arrest me. I’m only eighteen. I can’t have aÂ
criminal record.”Â
One of the officers asked calmly, “Who reported this?”Â
A school administrator stepped forward.Â
“Our student Vivian Hart illegally accessed anotherÂ
student’s college application portal and tampered withÂ
the applications.”Â
Vivian immediately pointed at me while crying.Â
“She set me up! She knew that paper wasn’t hers andÂ
deliberately left it in her backpack for me to take!”Â
The officer looked directly at her.Â
“So your statement confirms that you did take the paper and log into the account.”Â
Vivian’s expression froze. “I didn’t steal it. I justÂ
borrowed it.”Â
“Taking someone’s account credentials withoutÂ
permission and using them to alter applications is notÂ
borrowing.”Â
Suddenly, Caleb lifted his head. “Officer, she did it.”Â
“She admitted herself that she intentionally wanted toÂ
ruin Audrey.”Â
Vivian completely lost control. She pointed at CalebÂ
and started laughing hysterically through tears.Â
“Caleb Vaughn, look at you trying to wash your handsÂ
clean now.”Â
“Why do you think I did it in the first place?”Â
“Because you gave me hope.”Â
“You said Audrey was arrogant. You said she didn’tÂ
understand real struggle. You complained that she keptÂ
clinging to you as a childhood friend.”Â
Caleb’s face darkened. “I never told you to tamper withÂ
the applications.”Â
“You didn’t have to say it outright.” Vivian’s smileÂ
twisted bitterly.Â
“Every time you defended me and attacked her, IÂ
thought if Audrey ever fell from that pedestal, you’dÂ
finally notice me.”Â
“I was jealous of her.”Â
“She was born with everything, while I had to actÂ
pitiful just to get people to look at me twice.”Â
“I wanted to drag her down.”Â
She stared straight at Caleb. “I just didn’t expect the one who fell would be you.”Â
Caleb stood frozen.Â
Vivian lowered her voice and laughed harshly. “Maybe this is better.”Â
“A golden boy like you needed to fall into the mud at least once to understand what my life feels like.”Â
“Caleb… you don’t have to pity me anymore.”Â
“Because now you’re ruined too.”Â
Caleb swayed where he stood.Â
Victor raised his hand again like he wanted to hit him,Â
but eventually closed his eyes instead.Â
“From today on, your allowance is gone.”Â
“Your cards are canceled. Your car’s gone too.”Â
“If you want to study abroad, or beg for connections,Â
figure it out yourself.”Â
Caleb’s voice trembled. “Dad… I’m your son.”Â
Victor laughed coldly.Â
“When you told someone else’s daughter to beÂ
understanding, did you ever stop to think she wasÂ
someone’s child too?”Â
Caleb couldn’t say another word.Â
The police officers placed handcuffs on Vivian.Â
Tessa suddenly rushed forward.Â
“Officer, Vivian just made one stupid mistake. HerÂ
family really is struggling.”Â
“That is not a license to commit crimes.”Â
Before Vivian was taken away, she turned back to lookÂ
at me.Â
There wasn’t a trace of regret in her eyes.Â
“Audrey, so what if you won?”Â
“Caleb’s already ruined now. Don’t think you can stillÂ
have him.”Â
I looked at her calmly. “I never said I wanted him back.”Â
Caleb’s head snapped toward me.Â
Right then, a sudden commotion erupted at theÂ
auditorium entrance.Â
Principal Rory Carter hurried in, barely able to hide hisÂ
excitement.Â
“Audrey Sinclair!” he called out loudly.Â
“Your admission result from Harvard University justÂ
came through!”Â
The entire auditorium fell silent for one second, thenÂ
the room exploded into shocked screams.Â
Still kneeling on the floor, Caleb stared at me withoutÂ
blinking.Â
“So in the end…”Â
“The only person whose future was actuallyÂ
destroyed… was me.‘
