I Heard My Husband’s Illegitimate Son’s Thoughts Chapter 09

I Heard My Husband’s Illegitimate Son’s Thoughts Chapter 09

Just as Selena was about to leave with the baby in her arms, I heard another deep male voice in my head.

Someone thought, ‘I didn’t go back on my word. I initially arranged for you to have a wealthy destiny with the Lumley family.

‘As Scarlett’s adopted son, you would have grown up and teamed up with Raymond to kill her. You would have taken over everything the Lumley family owned. Then, you would have brought Selena over so the three of you could be a happy family. After that, your career would have kept getting bigger. You would have been rich and successful your whole life.’

The baby thought, “Then, what happened? I haven’t even grown up yet. How did my real mom already take me back?’

The deep voice continued, ‘All I can say is God works in mysterious ways. These days, even in the afterlife, / everyone has a few connections. Scarlett’s best friend, Felicity, prayed for Scarlett so much that she earned her a special grace from God. It lets her hear your thoughts and change her own destiny.’

The baby thought, ‘What? Why didn’t you tell me sooner? I’m giving you a serious one-star review.’

The deep voice continued, “This kind of lucky coincidence wasn’t something I could predict. Don’t worry. God has another plan for you. He won’t give you such a bad ending. From now on, just be a real baby. Focus on being a good person.’

After these words, the voice disappeared completely.

The baby in Selena’s arms also stopped crying and slowly fell asleep.

I stood there frozen in place until Lina spoke up.

“Miss? Are you okay?”

I came back to my senses. “It’s nothing. I need to go somewhere.”

I drove out of the neighborhood and went straight to Springs Cemetery. I bought a bouquet of lilies and placed it in front of her tombstone. Lilies were Felicity’s favorite.

I reached out and gently touched the photo on the tombstone. My turbulent heartbeat calmed down when I looked at her innocent smile.

“Felicity, was it really you who watched over me from up there? Did you save me from that horrible man?”

Felicity and I met at the university.

Back then, I wanted to experience ordinary campus life. So, I chose to live on campus. I happened to be placed in the same dorm room as Felicity.

My first impression of her was that she was very unassuming and poor.

She used a trash bag to pack her luggage. Her bedsheets and quilt covers on the bed had been washed until the colors had faded. They also had several patches on them.

However, she was surprisingly optimistic. She did not have that inferiority complex that most poor people had. She was not afraid to tell people when she was struggling or that she needed help.

She ran errands for people in the dorm building. She picked up takeout, grabbed packages, and bought breakfast to earn her living expenses.

As for me, I had always been used to having servants take care of me at home. Problems that could be solved with money were not problems to me at all.

After some time, I became Felicity’s biggest customer.

After getting to know her, I learned about her family situation. Her parents had passed away when she was very young. Her grandmother had raised her.

She had been working odd jobs since high school. She did all kinds of part-time work to earn her own living

expenses.

The more I got to know her, the more I admired her. Although she started from such a disastrous family situation, she relied on her own hard work and perseverance to get into a top university.

Honestly, if I were her, there was absolutely no way I could have done that.

Later, I sponsored her tuition and living expenses. Throughout the four years we spent together, she and I became friends who could tell each other anything.

After she graduated, she joined the Lumley Group to work. She became my assistant in the company.

I always prided myself on being the benefactor in Felicity’s life. I told her that after meeting me, she would never have to suffer again.

However, fate had other plans.

One year ago, Felicity developed bone cancer. No matter how much money I had spent on her treatment, I still could not save her life.

I always said that God was being unfair to Felicity. She came into this world and endured so much suffering. Her hardships finally ended, but before she could enjoy anything, her life was taken away.

However, Felicity said that meeting me was already the luckiest thing that had ever happened to her.

Yet, I felt that meeting her was proof of my luck. She even protected me in her afterlife.

I ran my fingers over Felicity’s photo as a deep sadness arose within me.

“Felicity, are we never going to see each other again? You saved my life, but I never got to thank you in person.”

Then, I recalled the conversation between Gabriel and the baby.

He said Felicity prayed for me so much that she earned a special grace from God. I was allowed to hear the baby’s thoughts and change my own destiny.

Did that mean she remembered me and my prayers had reached her?
