I Gave Them Their Show. I Gave Her My Wedding Chapter 02

I left the banquet and sent my resignation to the company.

HR replied instantly, “Are you sure? Do we need to tell Mr. Sterling?”

“Don’t tell him.”

They didn’t push, “Fine. It’s late. Come in tomorrow morning to sign the papers.”

I agreed. I went home to pack.

My phone buzzed.

In the group chat called “Blair’s Recovery Plan,”

Mira tagged me,

[Nova, did you leave again?]

[Blair was so excited about the wedding.]

[We couldn’t make her sad, so we planned a fake one for her.]

[We lied to you because we didn’t want you to get hurt.]

Arlo chimed in, [Blair lost her memory saving you. Don’t be so petty.]

Reid sent a short reply,

[Be patient. I’ll give you a bigger wedding next time.]

I’d heard that promise before.

When Blair took my pre-wedding trip, he said he’d take me farther next time.

When I gave up the house, he said he’d buy me a better one.

I waited—only to be let down again.

I wasn’t waiting anymore.

I left the group chat. I started packing.

Under the pillow, I found a diary.

Reid had written it for me.

When Blair moved in, they threw away our couple photos, our engraved keepsakes—all our memories.

Except this diary.

I’d hidden it. It got me through the long, sleepless nights.

I wouldn’t need it anymore.

I threw it in the bin.

The roses on the balcony had been replaced by sunflowers—Blair’s favorite.

The walls were covered in stickers.

My traces had slowly been filled by her.

After packing, I realized I barely filled half a suitcase.

I laughed bitterly. Before I could pull the zipper, the door swung open.

The four of them were back. Blair was barefoot, carried by Reid.

Mira held her shoes. Arlo held her train.

They froze when they saw me.

Reid put Blair down and explained, “She drank too much. I had to carry her.”

Blair looked up, drunk and annoyed,

“Reid, I’m your wife. Why are you explaining to her?”

She tried to grab his ear—and stumbled back into his arms.

He laughed, “Alright, alright, you’re right.”

Blair pointed at me, “Nova, you’ve been staying here for months.”

“I’m married now. You should move out.”

How ridiculous.

Reid and I bought this house three years ago.

I picked every piece of furniture.

She’d only been here a few months—and she already called it hers.

Seeing my face fall, Mira quickly laughed,

“Housing is hard to find. Nova’s a hard worker. She can stay as your live-in helper.”

Arlo nodded, “You two are busy. She can help around the house. Right, Nova?”

Reid gave me a warning look: don’t say anything stupid.

Everyone waited for me to force a smile and nod.

But I just laughed, “No need. I’ll leave now.”

I turned and walked out with my suitcase.

They all froze.

Reid reached for me—but Blair gagged behind him.

He turned to help her.

Mira and Arlo rushed after them.

One patted her back, one handed her tissues, one grabbed milk from the fridge.

I was invisible again.

I smiled bitterly.

I picked up my suitcase and walked out without looking back.
