I Broke Up With Him After The Concert Kiss Chapter 05
Silas’s cold smirk froze on his face.Â
His hand, raised to knock, hung suspendedÂ
in the air.Â
Lila’s face went pale as she grabbed theÂ
neighbor’s arm.Â
“Elowen left the country?”Â
The neighbor pulled her arm away, annoyed,Â
and rolled her eyes.Â
“Took all her luggage. You think she’d lie about that?”Â
She shook her head and walked away.Â
Silas snapped. He kicked the front door hard, forcing it open.Â
The apartment was empty, eerily quiet.Â
Every piece of furniture was covered with dust sheets.Â
Silas stormed into the bedroom and ripped open the closet.Â
Only a few old, unwanted clothes ofÂ
Elowen’s remained.Â
The desk was spotless, all her textbooks andÂ
notes gone.Â
“Impossible… she wouldn’t leave…”Â
Silas muttered, stumbling back into the living room.Â
Something squelched under his shoe.Â
He looked down and saw the smashed Peanut Butter Cupcake from that day.Â
Next to it were a few dried, dark red smudges of blood.Â
Silas froze, struck dumb.Â
It hit him all at once.Â
Elowen was deathly allergic to peanuts–oneÂ
bite could send her into anaphylactic shock.Â
He’d forced the cake into her mouth thatÂ
day.Â
Then he’d run off when the hospital called, leaving her alone on the floor.Â
His legs buckled, and he crashed to his knees.Â
He reached out a trembling hand to touchÂ
the bloodstains.Â
Lila ran in, screamed at the sight of the blood.Â
“Silas! Is Elowen-”Â
Silas shoved her away violently and grabbed his phone, dialing Elowen’s number overÂ
and over.Â
“We’re sorry, the number you have reached is no longer in service.”Â
The robotic voice echoed through the emptyÂ
room.Â
Desperate, he opened WeChat and sent aÂ
message.Â
A red exclamation mark stared back at him.Â
Elowen had blocked him.Â
Silas gasped for air, his chest constricting like a fist was squeezing his heart.Â
He doubled over, breaking out in a coldÂ
sweat.Â
Lila knelt beside him, crying, tugging at his sleeve.Â
“Silas, what do we do? Elowen doesn’t want us anymore.”Â
Silas shook her hand off.Â
His eyes were red as he glared at her.Â
“This is all your fault! If you hadn’t fakedÂ
being sick that day, I never would’ve leftÂ
her!”Â
Lila stared at him, shocked.Â
“You’re blaming me? You’re the one whoÂ
forced the cake down her throat!”Â
They stood there, screaming at each other inÂ
the once happy apartment.Â
In the corner trash can, the broken pieces ofÂ
the family heirloom locket lay forgotten.Â
Silas crawled over and carefully picked themÂ
- up.Â
The jagged edges still had traces of Elowen’sÂ
blood.Â
He clutched the shards to his chest andÂ
sobbed uncontrollably.Â
“Elowen… come back…”Â
Without Elowen, his world was broken.Â
On the first day of classes, Silas and Lila showed up at the local community college.Â
The campus was run–down, overgrown with weeds.Â
Silas stared at the students with brightly dyed hair.Â
He thought of Elowen, staying up late nightÂ
after night, studying by the lamp.Â
She’d been top of her class.Â
She’d deserved to go to the best university inÂ
the country, to have a bright future.Â
And he’d ruined it all.Â
Silas stood in the courtyard and slappedÂ
himself hard across the face.
