My Mother Called Me a Liar Chapter 06
Ignoring the police tape completely, she ducked under it and finally saw the full extent of my condition.
The dried blood beneath me had turned a dark red, soaking through the ground in large patches. My arms were covered in countless needle marks, bruised purple and blue.
My face was pale, my body cold.
There were no signs of life.
Mom froze.
She grabbed my arm, trying to pull me up from the ground.
“Briana, stop messing around. The police are already here, get up!”
However, no matter how hard she pulled, my body only collapsed limply back down.
Her voice grew sharper, taking on the tone she always used when giving orders.
“Briana, did you hear me? I told you to get up!”
Someone behind her reached out to stop her.
“Ma’am, please calm down. The cause of death is still unknown, and we need to preserve the scene.”
“What do you mean, dead?”
Mom whipped around, her eyes instantly reddening.
“She’s my daughter! She’s not dead! She’s just throwing a tantrum at me!”
She shook off the hand restraining her and lunged back toward the body on the ground, pulling me desperately into her arms.
“Briana, get up right now! Weren’t you the one who wanted me here? I came, didn’t I? So what are you still pretending for?”
However, the girl in her arms did not move at all.
At the edge of the crowd, Sharon’s face had gone deathly pale. Her lips trembled uncontrollably.
“This can’t be real… how could she actually be dead…
“I didn’t do anything. This has nothing to do with me.”
She quietly began backing away.
One step.
Then another.
Suddenly, she turned to run.
However, an arm shot out from the side and firmly grabbed her wrist.
“You know this student?”
It was the young police officer who had been standing outside the police line earlier.
He studied Sharon’s pale face and panicked eyes, his brows tightening slightly.
Sharon shook her head frantically.
“I don’t know her! I have nothing to do with her!
“I’m just a nurse helping organize blood draws according to hospital instructions. I don’t know anything!”
The officer did not let go.
His tone remained calm and steady.
“There’s a lot of blood on that student. Do you know what happened?”
Sharon’s lips twitched.
“N-No… I don’t know.”
The officer kept his eyes fixed on her.
“Were you the one handling her blood draw? How much blood was taken? What time was it done?”
The questions came one after another, leaving Sharon so frightened she stumbled backward until her
back slammed into a tree.
Mom’s eyes were red as well now, staring at her without blinking.
“Well? Say something!
“How much blood did you take from Briana?
“Was it you who killed her?!”
Sharon burst into tears.
“It wasn’t me… it wasn’t me. She volunteered to donate it herself. It has nothing to do with me.”
The moment she finished speaking, her eyes rolled back and she fainted.
Inside the hospital corridor, Mom sat blankly on a bench, her eyes hollow.
A police officer sat beside her, deliberately softening his voice.
“The autopsy results will be out soon. Once they are, we’ll be able to determine the exact cause of death. We’ll investigate everything thoroughly. We won’t let anyone die unjustly.”
Mom nodded numbly without saying a word.
The hallway fell silent.
Then a pair of leather shoes stopped in front of her.
Slowly, she lifted her head and met a cold, sharp face.
Dad’s eyes were red as he looked down at her, but there was no warmth in them at all.
Mom’s expression flickered. Instinctively, she avoided his gaze.
“Why are you here?”
Dad’s voice was hoarse.
“My daughter is dead. Why do you think I’m here?
“What exactly did you do to Briana? She was perfectly fine before leaving the house this morning. How
did she suddenly end up dead?
“Do you know what it felt like when the police showed me those photos?
“One of Briana’s arms was practically ruined. This is how you took care of her?”
Mom’s body trembled slightly. Her lips parted several times, but no explanation came out.
“When she graduated, her scores were good enough for a much better school. You insisted she come to
your school because it would be ‘easier to take care of her.’
“And this is your idea of taking care of her?”
Mom suddenly looked up, her own eyes reddening.
“What exactly are you trying to say? Did you come here just to blame me?
“Do you even know how busy and exhausted I am every single day? I have countless things to deal with.
How could I possibly watch her twenty-four hours a day? She was an adult, not a three-year-old child!
“And besides, you’re her father too. Do you really have zero responsibility for her death?
“Why are you putting all the blame on me?”
Dad stared at her in silence, saying nothing more.
At that moment, a police officer hurried over.
“The nurse who collapsed at the school has regained consciousness.”
