My Mother Called Me a Liar Chapter 05

The office fell silent for a moment.

Standing off to the side, Sharon spoke softly. “Mrs. Cole, don’t believe her. Briana definitely hired people to put on this act. She’s just trying to force you to give in.”

Hearing that, Mom seemed to regain her footing. She let out a cold laugh.

“Briana, you’ve really become something, haven’t you? Hiring people to pretend to be police officers just

to trick me?”

Sharon quickly chimed in.

“Mrs. Cole, Briana really went too far this time. If word gets out, imagine how bad this will look.”

She glanced at the two officers by the door and added, “Though I have to admit, they look pretty convincing. I wonder how much she paid them?”

Mom’s expression darkened even further.

She looked the officers up and down, her tone turning icy.

“Where is Briana hiding now? Did she send you here to fool me? Do you even realize impersonating police officers is illegal?”

The two officers exchanged a helpless look.

“Ma’am, we are real police officers. We are not pretending.

“This afternoon, we received a report from students on campus saying someone covered in blood was lying on the sidewalk. By the time we arrived, the victim had already been confirmed dead.

“We’ve verified the identity. The deceased is your daughter, Briana Hayes.”

Mom rubbed her temples impatiently and sighed.

“Enough with the act already. Where is she? I’ll go find her myself. I’d like to see what kind of stunt she’s

trying to pull now.”

Sharon looked at Mom with concern, as though they were the real mother and daughter.

“Mrs. Cole works so hard every day, and Briana still pulls something like this to make her worry. She’s

really too immature.”

Realizing words were getting nowhere, one of the officers directly handed over his badge.

“Ma’am, I understand this is difficult for you to accept, but please cooperate with our investigation. This is not a prank. Your daughter is truly dead.”

Mom took the badge with a look of disdain, but the moment she saw the photo, serial number, and

official seal, her hand began to tremble.

Everything was there.

“This can’t be possible… no… impossible…

“She was obviously pretending to be dead. How could she actually be dead? You must have made a

mistake!”

The officer took back his badge and said firmly, “Please come with us to confirm the body.”

Mom’s breathing grew ragged, panic finally surfacing in her eyes.

She walked quickly ahead, with Sharon following behind her, pale-faced.

The entire way there, nobody spoke.

Yellow police tape had already been set up around the sidewalk. Several uniformed officers were

securing the scene.

A group of students stood in the distance watching, whispering among themselves.

The moment Mom saw the police tape, her steps faltered. Then she suddenly rushed forward.

“Move!”

She shoved people aside frantically.

“My daughter isn’t dead! What are you people doing? Are you trying to curse my daughter?”
