My Mother Called Me a Liar Chapter 07
Three people stood up at the same time.
The hospital room door swung open.
Sharon was curled up on the bed, clutching the blanket all the way to her chin so only her eyes were visible. The moment she saw the two police officers and Mom walk in, she immediately grabbed her head and put on a pained expression.
“My head hurts so bad. I can’t remember anything. All of you, get out!”
Mom strode forward and yanked the blanket off her.
“How much blood did you take from Briana?”
Sharon kept her eyes shut and shook her head wildly.
“I don’t know anything. Stop asking me.”
One of the officers spoke up. “Ms. Jones, we need your cooperation for the investigation.”
“I can’t remember anything! Stop forcing me! My head really hurts!”
Sharon cut him off, her voice already cracking with tears.
Dad slowly walked to the bedside. Then, under Sharon’s stunned gaze, he picked up the flower vase from the nightstand and smashed it onto the floor.
The vase shattered instantly, sharp porcelain shards scattering everywhere.
One piece sliced across his hand. Blood immediately welled up and ran down his fingers.
However, he did not even glance at it. He simply stared coldly at Sharon on the bed.
Sharon swallowed hard, fear creeping onto her face.
“What are you trying to do? I’m warning you, this is a hospital. The police are right here.”
“Looks like you’ve calmed down now,” Dad said coldly. “Good. Then let’s talk about how much blood you took from my daughter.”
Sharon’s eyes darted away.
“I was just following procedure. She volunteered to donate herself.”
A knock suddenly came from the door.
A doctor walked in holding a file. He glanced at Sharon before turning to everyone else in the room.
“The coroner’s report is out.
“The deceased, Briana Hayes, had already begun showing signs of multi-organ failure after one hundred milliliters of blood had been drawn, which ultimately caused her death. After that, another four hundred milliliters were taken, bringing the total to five hundred milliliters.
“In addition, dense needle marks were found on the victim’s arm, with evidence of repeated failed insertions. There were also signs of blunt force trauma inflicted after death.”
Silence filled the room.
The doctor looked at Sharon, fury undisguised in his eyes.
“You’re a nurse. The maximum safe blood donation amount is four hundred milliliters. That’s basic medical knowledge. Yet you drew five hundred milliliters from someone suffering from severe anemia.
“What exactly were you trying to do?”
Sharon burst into tears and suddenly pointed at Mom.
“It’s not my fault! She told me to do it!
“I’m just a small-time nurse from an outside clinic. I didn’t know she had severe anemia! But her mother
clearly knew about her condition and still told me to keep drawing blood!”
Mom’s whole body trembled as she struggled to breathe.
Then it suddenly hit her.
Everything Sharon had said before had been a lie.
Because by then, I was already dead.
A dead person could not push someone.
Could not threaten someone.
“Why did you kill my daughter?!”
Mom lunged at her, grabbing her by the collar.
“Give me back my daughter! You should die and pay for her life!”
Sharon struggled violently, but even then she kept provoking her.
“How is this my fault? You were the one who forced her to donate blood! Everyone here can testify to that!
“You knew your daughter had severe anemia and still dragged her here. I’ve been a nurse for years, and
I’ve never seen such a cold-blooded mother!”
The two women grappled with each other. The IV stand crashed to the floor, cups shattered everywhere,
glass scattering across the room.
“Enough!”
Dad’s furious roar instantly silenced them both.
He strode over, pulled Mom away, then raised his hand and slapped her across the face.
The crack echoed through the hospital room.
Mom’s head snapped to the side. Half her face turned red almost instantly.
“For the sake of your pathetic pride, you forced her to donate blood. Now she’s dead. Are you satisfied?!”
Mom clutched her face as tears streamed silently down.
Dad turned around and looked coldly at Sharon on the bed.
“As for you, you killed my daughter, then smeared dirt on her name after her death.
“I’ll hire the best lawyers possible, and I’ll make sure you pay for what you’ve done.”
