My Cruel Bestie Mocked Me to Please His Muse, Unaware I Was Flying to Harvard with a True Genius Chapter 05

I looked up in shock, not understanding what I’d done wrong.

But all I saw was Zach shielding Jasmine behind him like a mother hen protecting her chicks.

“Are you still going to pretend? I saw it clearly — you tried to smash that glass and cut Jasmine’s face. Sophie, I used to think you were just a little spoiled and headstrong, just acting out of spite. I never imagined you could be this cruel. Apologize to her.”

His commanding tone made me laugh in exasperation.

“She was the one who threw that cup at me. How could it be me?”

“Apologize.” Zach’s expression grew even darker. “If you don’t, we’re done.”

I looked him straight in the eye. “Then let’s be done.”

With that, I turned and walked away, ignoring his furious shouts from behind.

I should have checked my horoscope before leaving the house today. Sure enough, running into Zach and Jasmine was bad luck.

When I got back, I hadn’t even gone to get my hand looked at yet.

From a distance, I saw Zach standing at the bottom of my building, like he was waiting for someone.

“Sophie, come out here.”

I didn’t want to deal with him, so I walked around him.

But he grabbed my wrist.

His expression changed. “Your hand is hurt.”

I raised an eyebrow sarcastically. “Didn’t you see it with your own eyes today? How did I end up like this again?”

I shook off his hand and looked away. “It’s my own business. It has nothing to do with you.”

But Zach blocked my path. He stared at me for a long moment, then sighed.

“Are you still mad? I’ve noticed you’ve been so cold to me ever since that class reunion. I already explained — what happened that day was just a joke. Jasmine insisted on making a bet with her friends to see my reaction. If I didn’t say I hated you in front of everyone, she’d lose, and then she’d start crying again. Come on, the acceptance letters will be here soon. We’ll all be enrolling at Boston University together. We’ll still be classmates. Don’t make a scene.”

Was that really true?

Because Jasmine made a bet with a friend. Because he couldn’t bear to see her cry.

He saw her as the one being wronged.

But he was the only one who didn’t see how my classmates were mocking me — turning my photo into a meme with the words “Clingy Annoyance” stamped on it.

And also — did he really still think I was going to Boston University with him?

That wasn’t possible anymore.

Zach didn’t know that on the day he was excitedly planning to enroll at Boston University with Jasmine, I had changed my college application.

From Boston University to Harvard.

For the next few days, I kept avoiding Zach.

It just so happened that our family was taking a summer vacation.

I suggested to my dad that we choose the city where Harvard was located — Cambridge, Massachusetts.

That way, we could also travel with Kevin’s family.

The day I arrived, I posted something on social media.

“Harvard University — here I come.”

Meanwhile, Jasmine was lying on Zach’s couch, scrolling through her phone.

When she saw my post, she gasped.

“Zach, did you see that? Sophie went to Harvard!”

The cup in Zach’s hand suddenly fell and shattered on the floor.

He looked up, rushed over, and snatched the phone.

When he saw the post, his face went pale, and he started calling me like crazy.

“Sophie, did you go to Harvard?”
