My Alpha Mate Kissed Another Omega On Stage, I Step Back To Fulfill Their Love Chapter 04

Back at the pack house, I drafted my resignation and submitted it to the Wolf Council.

Then I contacted a werewolf attorney who specialized in Ashenwood’s pack laws and had him prepare two documents.

A property settlement agreement.

And a consent form to break our mate bond. For James to sign when he got back.

Once that was done, I started packing.

I heard the key turn in the front door. Then, those familiar footsteps. James.

He glanced at me, casual as ever. “Another assignment? How long this time?”

I didn’t look up. Just kept folding my clothes.

James seemed to notice something was off. He walked over and shrugged.

“Are you still upset about that truth challenge?”

“It was just a game. What was I supposed to do with everyone watching—embarrass Lorraine?”

He reached for my waist. I stepped back.

Then I tore apart the pathetic excuse he was trying to hide behind.

“So that’s your excuse?”

“Kissing her in public. Drinking for her. Ditching me at the pack house to go take care of her?”

James’s careless smile flickered.

“Lorraine just passed her basic aptitude test. How could she possibly drink all that?”

“You’ve always been good at everything. She’s just an Omega. And you’re going to be Luna.”

“Do you really have to make such a big deal out of this?”

His casual attitude made my hands shake with anger.

I threw down the clothes in my hands and pointed at him.

“I’m making a big deal? You’re my mate—seven years. She’s an Omega I looked after for five.”

“You kissed her right in front of me, and you think that’s nothing?”

“Did you hear what they were saying? Every single one of them called me the third party.”

James looked at me, impatience flickering across his face.

“Why do you care so much about a few jokes?”

“When did you become this unreasonable?”

“I already told you—I only see her as a younger sister. What else do you want from me?”

My chest heaved. I pointed at him, but for several seconds, no words came.

Finally, I yanked out my phone and shoved Lorraine’s post right in his face.

“Then explain this. You’re my mate. Why were you feeding her like that?”

James’s expression darkened. “Lorraine was sick. She was feeling miserable.”

“What’s wrong with an Alpha taking care of a sick pack member?”

I stared into his eyes, searching for the faintest trace of guilt. The slightest hint of regret. There was nothing.

He looked at me like I was some hysterical woman making a scene.

The impatience in his eyes wasn’t even hidden anymore.

My chest tightened until I could barely breathe.

The bond I’d held onto for seven years felt like it was falling apart. Pain swept through me and left me numb.

After standing silently for a while, I reached for the documents the lawyer had prepared and placed them in front of him.

“I want to break our—”

James took the papers.

Just as he was about to look, his phone rang.

Lorraine’s syrupy voice spilled from the speaker.

“Alpha, didn’t you say you’d be right back after grabbing your things?”

James glanced at me—and for the first time, I caught a flicker of panic in his eyes.

He lowered his voice. “I’ll be right there.”

Then he hung up.

A laugh escaped me—quiet, bitter, hollow.

So this was my place. The one he could always drop at a moment’s notice.

James shifted under my gaze.

Without even reading them, he flipped to the last page and signed.

He paused at the door and looked back. “Nelly.”

He rubbed his forehead, sighing. “You’re not young anymore.”

“You really shouldn’t take things so seriously.”

The door shut, sealing off an entire world between us.

I looked down at the papers. His signature was already there.

For the first time in days, I finally let out a long breath.

There was nothing left to hold on to.
