My Alpha Mate Kissed Another Omega On Stage, I Step Back To Fulfill Their Love Chapter 03

My Alpha Mate Kissed Another Omega On Stage, I Step Back To Fulfill Their Love Chapter 03

At some point, I must have drifted off.

When I woke up, the rain was still falling outside.

My phone pinged. Someone I followed had posted on social media. It was James.

The attached photo showed Lorraine curled up against his chest while he gently fed her medicine.

It looked so effortless. So intimate. Like a pair of fated mates.

The comment section was already overflowing with blessings and congratulations.

With all the buzz from the witches’ truth challenge, more and more pack members were finding the post.

[Oh my God, they have to be mates.]

[Alpha even went over to take care of her and had medicine ready. You two better stay happy forever!]

[Called it. No way Alpha would be with that older she-wolf.]

The comments were overwhelmingly supportive.

Just before I put my phone down, another pack member uploaded a photo of me.

It was taken at the marketplace.

I stood alone below the stage and stared at James and Lorraine.

I could hardly believe what I was seeing. They were completely absorbed in each other.

I looked like a clown, desperate for a happiness that wasn’t mine.

The comment quickly gained traction.

[So that’s the she-wolf trying to latch onto Alpha?]

[Honestly, she’s pretty attractive. If she were ten years younger, she’d probably be prettier than some of today’s celebrities.]

[So what? She’s just some shameless outsider trying to squeeze her way in.]

I stared at the comment, my hands shaking nonstop.

So I was the outsider now?

But I had known James for seven years.

Seven years ago, I was the one presenting medals to the top young warriors chosen by the Wolf Council.

The number of award recipients was limited.

James had missed the cutoff by one spot.

I still remembered seeing his bruised body after training and the frayed cuffs of his uniform.

Behind the scenes, I pulled some strings to get him an extra slot.

The pack members who knew about it called me foolish.

They said the minute he became Alpha, I’d be the first one he kicked to the curb.

I refused to believe it.

I couldn’t imagine him repaying kindness with cruelty.

Later, I spent countless hours helping him plan his future.

I fought to get him every honor and bit of recognition he’d missed out on.

When James said he didn’t want to make our relationship public, I understood.

Whenever I got sick, he’d drop everything—no matter how urgent the pack matters were—and rush right over.

If I was even a little upset, he’d pull me into his arms and soothe me.

I finally realized that every warning I’d been given had come true.

I switched off my phone.

Tears slid from the corners of my eyes, soaking the pillow beneath my cheek.

I forced down a few bites of bread, then dragged myself out of the pack house and caught a ride to the pack medical center.

The nurse took one look at my pale lips and immediately brought me a cup of hot water and a blanket.

As I was leaving the medical center, my phone rang. It was James.

“Nelly, how do you make that braised beef in red wine?”

For seven years as his mate, I had spent every day thinking of new meals to cook for him.

Forget cooking—I’d never even asked him to warm his own milk at breakfast.

Through the phone, I could hear Lorraine’s lazy voice in the background.

And just like that, I understood.

After a pause, I said flatly, “They sell it at the restaurant.”

“I know.” James hesitated, then added, “But Lorraine said she wants something homemade.”

I let out a quiet laugh.

After hanging up, I stared at the call log on my screen.

For the first time, the seven years I had devoted to him felt unbearably ridiculous.

I’d given him everything—my heart, my loyalty, the best years of my life.

And this was what I got in return.
