I Traveled into the Future and Became the Alpha’s Luna Chapter 08
When I woke up, I heard familiar voices arguing.
Someone was fighting.
“Mom! Do you even know who that is? That’s the
Luna.”
“You wanna get kicked out of the pack? You wanna take me down with you?”
The middle–aged female wolf was frantic. “Idiot, she’s out of it right now. You two have already done everything. When she wakes up, she’ll listen
to you. She’ll do whatever you say.”
“Then when her pack asks, she can just say she
wanted it.”
I opened my eyes.
And saw two people at the door.
Julian lit a cigarette, looking pissed. “You’ve
controlled my whole life. Isn’t that enough?”
“Elena doesn’t love me. You keep trying to shove
us together. What the hell is wrong with you?”
“What do you know?”
The other woman’s voice shot up.
“Do you know Elena’s father is the high Alpha of
the Silvermoon pack? If she breaks the contract
with Caleb, her father could support you just like
he supported Caleb! You could become an Alpha! You’d never want for anything in your whole life!”
“Would your mother ever hurt you?”
She sobbed. “I risked getting caught to do all this. All for you!”
She wiped her tears and turned around.
The face in the shadows slowly came into focus.
It was Margaret.
I kept my eyes closed, pretending to still be out.
I’d suspected Margaret for a while now. I’d been
quietly looking into things.
I just didn’t think she’d move this fast.
They kept arguing.
“Come on, idiot. I was gonna keep her confused ‘til she broke the contract, but then she suddenly snapped out of it. Not only did she break up with
you, she’s all about making things work with
Caleb.”
She spat the words, her face twisted with hate.
“And Caleb’s such a damn doormat. Even though she’s carrying your kid, he still won’t break the
contract.”
“Mom!”
Julian cut her off. “You know damn well the only reason Elena ever liked me was because you drugged her for months and hypnotized her while
she was out of it.”
“And you know that kid isn’t mine. It’s hers and Caleb’s. I never touched her!”
Smack!
The slap was loud.
Margaret’s voice shook. “How dare you? I’ve done
so much for you. And you?”
“You used to do everything I said…”
Julian laughed.
“Do everything you said?”
“Right. A mom who had a kid out of wedlock, left
him on the street, didn’t raise him, then gets old
and tries to control everything, drugs and
hypnotizes her own son whenever she wants to
keep him in line–who wouldn’t listen?”
“You’ve been drugging Elena behind her back,
slowly breaking her mind, then hypnotizing her
into thinking Caleb was cheating. You made us
‘run into each other‘ and hypnotized her with your
crappy techniques. And then, after I actually fell
for her, you tell me Elena has a family, a husband.
That you made all of it happen. That Elena was
just some poor, manipulated girl. That she never,
never actually wanted me.”
“Did you ever ask me what I wanted?”
“Julian…”
Margaret suddenly started crying. “I just thought I owed you. I wanted to give you a good life. I’m just a nobody omega who raised someone else’s pup. But why? Why do their pups get everything, and
my son gets nothing?”
“Caleb was a stray too, wasn’t he? The only reason
he got ahead was because he married Elena.”
“I raised Elena! I was the one who raised her! Why should he get all the benefits?”
Margaret, who I’d never once seen raise her voice in twenty years, was now screaming, her voice hoarse, her eyes full of pure venom.
“Mom, you’ve known Elena for more than twenty years. You could do this to her?”
“Why not?”
Margaret smiled coldly. “Just because she was
born into a good family. What else does she
have?”
“She’s been spoiled and whiny her whole life.”
Then, like she suddenly realized something, her voice dropped. She tried to calm him down.
“Julian, I promise I’ll never control your life again. I’ll leave now. You and Elena stay in this room and get the job done, okay?”
“Or it’ll be too late.”
A lighter flicked.
Julian put his cigarette in his mouth and
shrugged. “Can’t do it.”
Then.
Footsteps.
Someone stopped right in front of me.
His voice was casual, restrained, and a little guilty.
“You heard all that, honey?”
“Quit pretending.”
I opened my eyes.
Julian glanced at his watch. “Caleb’ll be here in
about five minutes.”
“And yeah, the kid is really yours and Caleb’s.”
“That time Caleb led the pack out to fight, my mom sent all the other nannies home for two days and made a big dinner with hypnotic herbs and silver powder. She wanted us to eat it together.”
“I couldn’t do it. I used your phone to text Caleb and lied to get him to come home.”
“You guys ate and went to your room together.”
When he saw me staring daggers at him, Julian smiled bitterly. “Relax, I’m not a creep. I didn’t
watch. I left as soon as you went inside.”
“But I didn’t know my mom would come back that night. When she saw Caleb was there, she took
you to the next room, and while Caleb was out of
it, she put some omega in his room to make it look
like he cheated.”
“The next day, you and Caleb had a huge fight. He thought you tricked him into coming home so you could set him up with an omega to get out of the contract. And you thought he cheated.”
“The kid is from that night.”
He spread his hands. “I never touched you, honey.”
I looked at him coldly. “Then why didn’t you say
something sooner?”
He gave a bitter smile.
“I’m confused a lot of the time too. I can’t tell
what’s real and what’s not. Sometimes I’d wake up
clearheaded and plan to tell you the truth, but the
next second she’d have control of me again. I’ve
been stuck like this, just getting by, ‘til now.”
And then Margaret, who’d been standing there in
shock, finally snapped out of it.
“Are you out of your mind!”
Margaret clawed at him frantically.
Julian smiled and let her pull his shirt all out of
shape. He leaned down and looked at her, still
smiling.
“Mom, do you even see me as a person anymore?”
“My whole life, I’ve been abandoned and
controlled. I finally find someone I love, but it turns
out it was all just a show you were running
“I love to run because it makes me feel free. The
only time I feel like I’m really alive, like I’m not
being controlled, is when I’m almost dying
“I’m a wolf. I’m not your damn dog!”
“You always say you gave me life, that I owe your
Fine. I’ll pay you back right now. We’ll both get
hunted by the pack. I don’t care if they tear me
apart.”
He smiled.
His eyes were red. “Is that what you wanted,
Mom?”
Margaret shook her head, sobbing.
Finally.
She snapped. She pushed Julian toward the door,
screaming. “Go! It was all me! It had nothing to do
with you! Go!”
Bang.
The metal door slammed open.
