I Faked an Affair for a Divorce but My Cold Husband Refused to Let Me Go Chapter 05

But instead…

He stared at me, eyes dark with anger. He gripped

my arm so hard he started shaking with anger, but

the moment he felt me whimper, he forced himself

to loosen his hold.

Lucas slid a hand behind my head and pulled me

closer.

He kissed my hair.

Then he patted my back, up and down, with an

awkward, clumsy gentleness.

In a low voice, he said, Mm. Baby held you.”

I froze.

His unnatural calm terrified me.

Lucas was brilliant, frighteningly intelligent. The

moment he’d gotten the first message, he should

have understood. I had cheated.To avoid a

scandal, he should’ve divorced me at once.

But instead, he denied it obsessively, insisting I

hadn’t slept with anyone else.

And now he was pretending my sweet words were

for him.

What was he doing?

Lucas seemed to think I’d gone back to sleep.

Silent, he lifted the covers. His finger touched my

ribcage, then traced down where I’d claimed one

of those moles was.

Just one light stroke.

His fingertip was cool.

It was so fast I didn’t even have time to think. I jerked and trembled uncontrollably.

That text had been something I made up. Even I hadn’t known that being touched there could send a jolt through me like electricity.

I shook, humiliated. I could barely keep acting. I

tried to pull away at once.

Lucas stopped moving and wrapped both arms. around me, completely, holding me tight against

him.

Tight. Unbreakable. Like a trap closing, so close I

could feel the pounding of his heart beneath his

ribs.

His heart was chaotic, frantic, pounding.

He whispered softly, You’re mine, and I’m yours.”

He really had gone mad.

He threw away every bit of logic, every cold

calculation, and turned into something animal.

Savage. Direct. Possessive, with no way out.

Like I’d been trapped in his hold, and from then on,

I could only belong to him.

Lucas stripped us both down. We were no longer

two people with fragile bodies and sensitive souls.

We were two people trapped together.

Click.

We were bound together.

And stubbornly believing that meant I was his, and

he was mine.

He had really gone mad.

In the darkness, I opened my eyes. Trapped

between his scorching chest and the cage of his

arms, I watched his sleeping face with a jumble of

unnameable feelings.

My eyes grew heavy, and I fell into sleep.

In the dream, the me from three years ago

screamed and begged him to let me go.

He looked at me coldly.

Not until I shouted, I don’t owe you anything. You

have no right to lock me up!”

did he finally take a step back.

He stayed silent for a full minute before lifting his

eyes.

You owed me,he said. Your sister left and broke

the engagement, so you have to take her place.

forever. I wasn’t letting you go.”

Back then, I’d sunk to the floor, staring at my face,

so similar to my sister’s, and I finally understood.

He refused to let me go because he’d been

treating me as her substitute.

Three years passed like that, suffocating and

miserable.

When I opened my eyes, Lucas was gone.

The bed beside me was smooth and neat, as if no

one had ever been there.
