My Alpha Chose My Sister, So I Chose Someone Else Chapter 06

My Alpha Chose My Sister, So I Chose Someone Else Chapter 06

Vivienne threw herself at his legs and clung to them, sobbing so hard she shook.

“Pavel, I didn’t mean to lie to you. I just love you too much.

“I don’t understand. My father has loved me since I was a child, everyone in the pack respects me, and Ashlyn was never wanted! Why are you the only one who can’t see that?

“If he hadn’t wanted to absorb the Cloudweave pack’s power, my father would never have taken her mother as

his mate.

“Everyone in the pack finds her cold and strange. How can you not see what she is?

“You don’t even like her that much, do you?

“You only decided to make her your mate because the Moon Goddess chose her for you.

“But she’s so ordinary. How is she anywhere near good enough for you?

“Admit it. I’m the one you like best, which is why you drop her for me every time I need you, why you panic more when I’m hurt than when she is. Am I wrong?

“The mate the Moon Goddess arranges isn’t always the right one! Plenty of wolves choose for themselves and end up happy. We could…”

Pavel kicked her off him without an ounce of mercy.

“Enough!

“I don’t want to hear you tear Ashlyn down ever again! There isn’t one thing about you that compares to her!”

Every wolf there froze.

None of them had imagined that an Alpha who was always so gentle with Vivienne could turn on her like that.

“Listen to me! The Luna of the Nightfall pack can only ever be Ashlyn!

“Get that vicious woman out of here. Take Vivienne back to the Moonsong pack, and never let her set foot on our land again!

“Now, all of you come with me. We are going to the Phantom pack to take my Luna back!”

Two warriors forced Vivienne into a car while she screamed his name over and over.

Pavel never once looked back.

The wolves below the altar erupted into fevered cheers.

“March on the Phantom pack! Take back our Luna!”

Through the car window Vivienne watched the hard line of his profile, and the tears kept coming.

She tried to escape again and again on the drive, trying to get back to Pavel. The warriors finally had to tie her up to stop her.

(Ashlyn’s POV)

Elsewhere.

The Phantom altar.

Caleb and I completed the ceremony with the blessing of the Phantom wolves.

When it came time for the mark, all he did was press a soft kiss to my neck.

That surprised me.

“Why didn’t you mark me?”

Caleb smoothed my hair back, his smile gentle.

“I want you to have a choice, including the freedom to leave me. When the day comes that you truly want to stay, I’ll mark you.”

I pressed my lips together.

“And if that day never comes?”

His smile didn’t falter.

“Then I’m not charming enough to make you want me. If that’s how it turns out, you can leave and choose the person you truly love.”

I was genuinely taken aback.

“So I can talk to other men? I can have dinner alone with a man?”

Caleb laughed.

“Of course. Officially, you’re my Luna now, but even if we completed the mating bond, you would still be your own person. You can do anything you want.”

I blinked at him.

“So you don’t actually like me at all, and you agreed to this only to get an alliance with the Moonsong pack?”

His eyebrow went up.

“Absolutely not.

“I’m not an especially generous man. If you spend time alone with another man and leave me out, I won’t be happy.

“But that’s my problem. You don’t have to carry my feelings for me.”

When he finished, something odd stirred in my chest.

Back when I was with Pavel, he was always jealous.

If I said one word too many to another man, Pavel would sulk at me for it.

Pavel always said his jealousy proved he cared, that I was his future mate and should have eyes for no one but him.

I once asked what that meant for him and Vivienne.

And he would say Vivienne was my sister, and that staying close to her was all for my sake.

I had thought that was simply how couples behaved. Then Caleb told me that before I became anyone’s mate, I was still my own person.

Looking into Caleb’s clear, honest eyes, I thought a lifetime with someone like him would not be bad at all.

I took his hand and was about to speak when a commotion broke out at the entrance to the altar.
