My Alpha Chose My Sister, So I Chose Someone Else Chapter 05
(Third person’s POV)
The Nightfall altar.
The hour of the mating ceremony had come.
Pavel searched the crowd, but Ashlyn was nowhere to be seen.
Then his Beta, Silas, hurried over.
“Alpha, we can’t find Ashlyn. Her landlord says she checked out and left first thing this morning. Word is she went back to Moonsong territory.”
Pavel’s eyes went wide and he grabbed Silas by the collar.
“Impossible! Ashlyn has been waiting to be mated to me for so long. Why would she leave now?
“Something urgent must have come up. I’ll call her.”
He yanked out his phone and dialed.
No matter how many times he tried, every call went straight to voicemail.
His hand trembled.
“Give me your phone!”
He snatched the phone from Silas before the Beta could answer and punched in Ashlyn’s number.
No one answered that phone either, but it rang normally before going to voicemail.
Then Pavel understood. Ashlyn had blocked his number.
It felt as if a hand had closed around his heart. He couldn’t breathe.
Why?
He could not make sense of it.
Was it Annie? Or because he had stopped Ashlyn from exposing Vivienne…
But those were small things.
How could Ashlyn skip their mating ceremony over such trivial things?
She would not.
Something urgent must have happened.
He was about to go looking for Ashlyn when Vivienne came up and wrapped both hands around his arm.
“Pavel, every wolf in the Nightfall pack is here today. Ashlyn is humiliating you!
Pavel pulled his arm away, frowning.
“At the ceremony, I have to mark my Luna in front of every wolf here. No one can take her place.
“You and Ashlyn have had some friction lately. Don’t follow me. I’ll bring her back myself.”
Then he announced to the assembled wolves that the ceremony was postponed.
Then he rushed down from the altar.
“Pavel!
“Ashlyn is about to be mated to Caleb of the Phantom pack! What’s the point of finding her?”
Pavel spun back and seized Vivienne by the throat with one hand.
“What did you say? Ashlyn is my fated mate. She can’t be mated to anyone
Vivienne struggled to breathe, her face going red.
“I… I only found out recently myself…
else!”
“Pavel… Ashlyn has been involved with another wolf behind your back. She was never loyal to you. There’s no reason to wait for her!
“Take me as your mate instead. I’m my father’s most beloved daughter. Our two packs would form the strongest
alliance there is.”
Pavel’s gaze turned cold.
“You told me your father took a new Luna and had another daughter, then stopped caring whether you lived or
died.”
Vivienne shivered and her eyes slid away.
“L…”
He ignored her protests and snatched Vivienne’s phone.
He opened the messages between her and her father.
“No! Don’t look at that!”
Vivienne fought to stop him,
But she rarely trained and was far too weak to stop him.
Pavel’s expression darkened as he hurled her to the ground.
“You dared to lie to me!”
It had never occurred to Pavel that everything Vivienne had told him about being unwanted by her father and
suffering since childhood was a lie.
She had every scrap of her father’s favor, yet she still wept to Pavel that her father loved only Ashlyn, that the pack’s resources all went to Ashlyn, and that she had barely survived childhood.
Those lies were why Pavel had wanted to be that much kinder to her.
His own father, the former Alpha of the Nightfall pack, had taken five Lunas over the years and fathered more than a dozen children.
Pavel was the child his father cared for least. He could count on one hand the number of times his father had visited him while he was growing up.
Believing Vivienne had endured the same neglect, Pavel had always tried to find one more way to help her.
Even if that meant Ashlyn got the short end of it, he assumed she had grown up surrounded by love and wouldn’t hold it against him.
He and Ashlyn would have plenty of chances to make up for it after they were mated.
Only now did Pavel see how catastrophically wrong he had been!
