One day, just as I arrived at my new office, I saw Megan standing outside the building.
She looked nothing like the confident woman she had once been.
She looked so worn down that she seemed ten years older.
The moment she saw me, she rushed over with tears welling in her eyes. “Flynn, please help me. Just this one last time. I know you have a close relationship with Mr. Davis. If you could just ask him to lift the industry ban against me, I’li do anything you
want!”

I shook my head. “Megan, we’re both adults. We need to take responsibility for our own actions.
“I helped you become the president of that branch, but you failed to appreciate it. I can’t keep saving you.”
With that, I turned and walked away.
However, Megan refused to give up and chased after me relentlessly. In the end, she even threatened me.
“If you don’t agree to help me today, I won’t leave!”
Then, she suddenly dropped to the ground and began to wail. “Oh, what did I do to deserve this? How could this man be so heartless? He drove me out of the company for another woman, and now he won’t even come home to me!”
I never imagined that Megan, who had always prided herself on being refined and dignified, would actually resort to making a scene like this.
It was rush hour, so a crowd quickly gathered around us.
Several of them were my new colleagues.
Not wanting the situation to escalate any further, I hauled Megan up and pulled her away from the entrance.
By the time we reached a nearby cafe, Megan had completely composed herself.
She took a sip of coffee and said, “You saw what I’m willing to do, right? If you get Mr. Davis to lift the ban against me, I’ll go back to being a good wife. Otherwise, I’ll keep showing up outside your office and make sure everyone knows what a terrible husband you are.”
She was the one who repeatedly stayed out because of Liam, and now she had the nerve to accuse me of abandoning her?
Even when she had constantly ignored my feelings for Liam’s sake, I had never found her as unfamiliar as I did now.
Megan seemed to read my thoughts and smiled coldly. “Are you disgusted by what I just did?”
I said nothing.
She did not seem to expect an answer anyway and continued, “But do you have any idea what my life is like now?
“To pay off the damages, I had to sell everything I owned. At first, I thought I’d have a chance to rebuild my career. I could just earn everything back eventually! I didn’t think that Mr. Davis would go as far as to blacklist me!
“He didn’t just forbid anyone from helping me or associating with me. He won’t even let me get an entry-level job anywhere!
“To survive, I’ve gotten to the point where I’d even take a job sweeping the streets!”
She made her situation sound utterly miserable, and yet I felt nothing.
Perhaps I had truly stopped loving her.
I could not even bring myself to offer her the smallest amount of sympathy.

The moment I agreed, her eyes instantly lit up. “I knew you were the best, Flynn!” She cheered. “Don’t worry. Once I find another job, I’ll be a good wife. We’ll have the grand wedding we never had and invite all our friends and family!”
