As I listened to her story, which was getting increasingly ridiculous, I could not help but frown. “Megan Grant, we’re separated
now.”
Megan did not seem to care. “Being separated doesn’t mean we’re divorced. We’ve been together for ten years. We have plenty of chances to start over.”
Since Megan had refused to sign the divorce papers, our divorce had yet to be finalized.
There was no point in arguing with her. I took out the divorce petition, along with all the videos and text messages Liam had
sent me.
“These are all evidence of how you betrayed me,” I said, showing them to her. “Along with the testimony from Mr. Davis and the others, it’s more than enough to prove that our marriage has completely broken down. It’s only a matter of time before the court grants the divorce. You’re on your own after that.”
I stood up and turned to leave.
However, Megan could not accept it. She hurried after me and grabbed my arm. “Flynn, there was nothing between Liam and me! I only treated him differently because he reminded me of you in the past. I couldn’t help but…”
I scoffed and retorted, “So, if I met some woman who reminded me of how you were in the past, would it be okay for me to get involved with her too?”
Megan did not even hesitate. “Of course not!” she yelled.
I looked at her quietly. “See? You can’t accept it either, yet you kept trying to force me to accept it.
“Megan, let’s at least leave each other with some dignity. Let’s end this here.”
Megan looked like she was about to say something, but her expression suddenly shifted.
The next moment, she shoved me to the ground.
A flash of silver caught my eye, and a knife plunged straight into her stomach.
I turned around and saw Liam standing where I had just been, reeking from head to toe.
His eyes were bloodshot as he glared at me with pure hatred. “Flynn, it’s all your fault! You’re the reason I ended up like this! I’m going to kill you! Go to hell!”
Then, he yanked the knife out and swung at me again.
Fortunately, the people nearby had realized what was going on and rushed forward to restrain him. Meanwhile, others checked Megan’s injuries and called the police and an ambulance.
Liam was arrested, and Megan was taken to the hospital.
Feeling that I owed her for saving my life, I went to visit her.
She had just been pulled back from the brink of death. As she sat in the hospital bed, she looked at the trees outside, seemingly lost in thought.
She only turned her head when she heard me enter.
When she saw me, a faint smile appeared on her lips.
Sunlight fell across her pale face.
For a moment, I saw the Megan I had known when we’d first entered the workforce together. She had been so inexperienced and full of hope back then.
However, the feeling quickly passed, and I came back to reality.
Megan patted the edge of the bed. “Sit.”
I shook my head.
“I’ve taken care of your medical bills. I’ve also spoken to Mr. Davis. Don’t worry. Once you’re discharged, you’ll be able to get back to a normal life.”
Megan did not seem to care about that. She looked into my eyes and said, “Flynn, I lost my way for a while, but after everything that’s happened, I’ve finally realized that you’re the one I’ve always loved…
“Even if you don’t ask Mr. Davis to help me, I still want us to start over. I…”
However, I simply placed the divorce papers in front of her. My expression remained calm. “We can’t go back, Megan. For the sake of the ten years we once shared, don’t make us end up fighting each other in court.”
Megan stared at the agreement. Tears slowly streamed down her cheeks.
After a long silence, she finally signed her name.
I knew that at that moment, the twisted relationship between Megan and me had finally come to an end.
I was finally free to begin a new life.
