My Roommate Fattened Me Up To Steal My Billionaire Fiancé Chapter 06

Vanessa never came back that night.

By the time the dorm had settled down for the night, her bed was still empty.

I lay awake beneath the blue-and-white striped privacy curtain over my bed, staring at it all night.

At two in the morning, Reid sent me a text.

Reid: [Nora, everything’s handled. Don’t worry. It’s late, so get some sleep. I’ll send you breakfast in the morning.]

Even after reading it, I could not relax.

The betrayal from my previous life poisoned every thought, tearing at my sanity in the dead of

night.

Could I really trust Reid completely?

Vanessa had not come back all night. Where had she gone?

What if… what if Reid had seen her and fallen for the beauty she worked so hard to fake?

After all, I weighed 204 pounds, while Vanessa was young, beautiful, and knew exactly how to

seduce men.

What if Reid’s claim that everything was “handled” was just something he said after sleeping with

her?

That suffocating panic, born of my crippling insecurity, held me captive until dawn began to break. Only then did I finally drift off.

At six thirty, the dorm-room door creaked open.

I woke instantly and whipped my head around.

Vanessa was back.

She wobbled in on her stilettos, her Chanel bouclé jacket hanging loosely off one shoulder.

Several conspicuous hickeys marked the skin exposed by her low neckline.

My heart slammed against my ribs.

Could it be?

Before I could follow the thought any further, she deliberately stopped beside my bed.

She rubbed her neck with feigned exhaustion, making sure the marks were impossible to miss.

“God, I’m exhausted. Nora, you’re up early.”

Vanessa’s voice was slightly hoarse, and she made no effort to hide the smugness in it.

“Sorry I didn’t make it back last night. I meant to, but… someone kept me occupied all night. I had no choice but to make do with the presidential suite.”

My mind went blank.

It felt as though an invisible fist had crushed my heart.

Had the thing I feared most really happened? Had Reid…?

Before despair could take hold, Vanessa suddenly leaned closer and lowered her voice, her tone smug and probing.

“By the way, Nora, you’ve been talking to Reid online for so long. Have you ever heard of the Carrington family? They’re just as prominent as the Whitakers in D.C.’s old-money power circle. Do you know the Carrington heir, Tristan Carrington?”

I froze.

The Carrington heir? Tristan Carrington?

“Then again, why am I even asking you?” Vanessa scoffed when she saw my stunned expression, then straightened and began removing her makeup in the mirror. “A fat pig who can only hide behind a screen and carry on some secret online romance would never get near that circle. You have no idea what it feels like to meet a gorgeous man and have the chemistry turn so explosive you can’t keep your hands off each other.”

She rubbed the marks on her neck and slipped into a blissful recollection.

“Reid never showed up at the upscale restaurant yesterday, but I met Tristan instead. He said he was meeting with the university about a partnership and never expected to run into a knockout like me. He fell for me on the spot. Last night, he reserved an entire rooftop bar just for us, and then he gave me this-”

Tristan said he likes girls like me-sweet, natural, and nothing like those trashy women out there. He’s taking me to an invitation-only supercar event with D.C.’s old-money crowd in a few days. Honestly, online romance means nothing. Meeting him, kissing him, and ending up in his bed -that’s how you win.”

For the first time all night, I could finally breathe.

I almost burst out laughing.

So this was Reid’s idea of restraint. This was how he intended to let Vanessa bring everything on

herself.

I had heard Reid mention Tristan Carrington countless times.

He was one of the most notorious playboys in D.C.’s old-money power circle, and he was vicious in the way he used women.

He knew exactly how to hook status-hungry women like Vanessa with flattery and luxury watches.

Tristan had a particularly cruel habit. When he was involved with a woman, he showered her with attention and made her feel adored. Once he got bored, he discarded her like trash.

He would even share her private videos and photos in a group chat with his wealthy friends, turning her into a source of entertainment and destroying her reputation throughout their social circle.

Reid had never planned to appear himself. He had introduced Vanessa directly to a predatory womanizer and let Tristan do the damage.

Vanessa, you thought you had stolen a ticket into high society.

You had no idea you had stepped straight into a trap Reid had designed to ruin you.
