My Roommate Fattened Me Up To Steal My Billionaire Fiancé Chapter 04

Early the next morning, I mapped out a three-month plan to transform myself completely.

At 204 pounds, my weight was more than an issue with my appearance. It posed a serious threat to my heart and overall health.

I found a highly rated residential, medically supervised weight-management program near campus. Its three-month course was exactly what I needed to safely reverse the steroid-related weight gain and fluid retention.

I sat down at my desk, opened my laptop, and pulled up the program’s website to fill out the application.

To double-check my class schedule, I opened Messages on my Mac and looked for yesterday’s conversation with my academic advisor about missing class.

The moment my message history finished loading, Reid’s fox avatar shot to the top of the sidebar.

I glanced at it casually, then froze as if I had been struck by lightning.

The preview did not show the message I had sent him the night before: [Okay. I’ll make it up to you tonight.]

Instead, it displayed a message I had never sent.

Me: [Baby, I’ve thought it over, and I don’t want to live with any regrets. Let’s meet today at noon!]

That was impossible.

My eyes widened as I opened my conversation with Reid, my hand shaking.

At nine that morning, my account had sent him a series of long messages.

Me: [Baby, I’m sorry. I was too anxious and overwhelmed yesterday, and I said things I didn’t mean. The truth is, I want to see you right now. Even if I’m not perfect, I still want to hold you.]

Me: [Can we meet at noon today at the same upscale restaurant where we were supposed to meet yesterday?]

Me: [And… to keep the mystery alive, please don’t text or call me again before we meet today. I’m shy, and I want to save every surprise for the moment we finally see each other. Just go straight there, okay?]

Below them was Reid’s ecstatic reply.

Reid: [Really, Nora?! That’s amazing! Wait for me. I’ll get there early!]

My mind went blank. A chill swept through me a second later.

I had slept deeply the night before, with my phone beneath my pillow the entire time. There was no trace of those messages on my phone.

There was only one explanation. I had already signed into Messages on my Mac and left it connected to my Apple Account. While I was asleep or in the bathroom, someone had used my computer to send those messages to Reid, then carefully deleted them from my phone.

Only one person had access to both my laptop and my phone.

I whipped around and looked at the bed across from mine.

Vanessa’s privacy curtain was wide open, but she was gone.

Her desk below was a disaster. The sunscreen bottle had been left uncapped, lipsticks in different shades were scattered everywhere, a smear of foundation stained the corner of the desk, and several makeup-covered tissues lay crumpled on the floor.

Every trace of chaos showed how eager she had been to leave—and how much effort she had put into her appearance.

She was already gone.

I went cold all over and slowly turned toward the clock in the lower-right corner of my screen.

11:30 a.m.

There were only thirty minutes left before the meeting she had arranged for noon.

Reid had probably arrived already and was sitting at the upscale restaurant, eagerly waiting for his “soulmate.”

Vanessa was on her way to him, certain she had already won.

The nightmare from my previous life—Vanessa stealing my place at our first meeting—was unfolding again right under my nose, only in an even more twisted and desperate way.
