My Roommate Fattened Me Up To Steal My Billionaire Fiancé Chapter 03
The next day, the violent slam of the door jolted me awake.
Sunlight filled the room. I checked the time. It was already 12:30 p.m.
In my previous life, Reid and I had arranged to meet at 10:30 at an upscale restaurant. Vanessa must have gone there and found no one waiting for her.
Bang! Vanessa hurled her Chanel bag onto the desk.
Her face was livid. She did not even take off her heels before storming over to my bed and yanking open the privacy curtain.
“Nora! Why are you still asleep?!”
I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and feigned confusion. “Huh? Vanessa, what’s wrong? It’s the weekend. What else would I be doing?”
“You were supposed to meet Reid today!” Vanessa glared at me, her eyes blazing with accusation. “Why didn’t you go? And why didn’t Reid show up at the restaurant either?!”
Watching her lose control was deeply satisfying.
In my previous life, she had pried the time and location of our meeting out of me, dressed herself to perfection, and taken the window table right on schedule so she could get to Reid first.
Today, she had shown up in her best outfit with every detail of her hair and makeup carefully planned, only to sit at the upscale restaurant for hours without even catching a glimpse of Reid.
I sighed, lowered my head, and twisted my fingers together as if I were ashamed.
“Vanessa, I looked in the mirror last night. I’m 204 pounds now… How could I possibly be good enough for him? So I decided not to meet him. For now, I want to focus on losing weight.”
“Are you out of your mind?!” Vanessa finally snapped, her viciousness spilling out unchecked. “Have you looked at yourself? You really think everything will change that easily? You think you can actually lose weight? All you ever do is get fatter! You really think this is some ugly-duckling makeover story?!”
As I sat on the bed, my expression suddenly turned cold.
And whose fault was it that I kept gaining weight?
I looked up and pinned her with a hard stare.
“Vanessa, when Reid and I meet is none of your business. If he never showed up at the restaurant, how would you know? You got all dressed up and rushed over there first thing this morning. Now you’re furious. What exactly are you so worked up about?”
The barrage of questions froze Vanessa in place.
When she met my stare, a shiver ran through her.
She probably had never imagined that the insecure, timid Nora she could push around so easily was capable of looking at her like that.
“I… I…”
Vanessa drew a deep breath and realized she had lost control. Panic flickered across her face before she forced a stiff, guilty smile. Her entire demeanor changed in an instant.
“Oh, Nora, you misunderstood! I was just… I was just worried about you!”
She stepped closer and reached for my hand. I leaned away, forcing her to pull back awkwardly before she rushed to explain herself.
“I just thought you and Reid were so close. If you didn’t go, he might think you stood him up. It would be awful to lose him over a misunderstanding. Besides, Reid loves your soul, not your looks. Stop being so insecure!”
Calculation gleamed in her eyes as she tried again.
“Why don’t you text him now and ask to meet tonight? Don’t feel so self-conscious. I’ll come with you and be there for moral support, okay?”
Her desperation nearly made me laugh.
Was she still trying to lure me out so she could stage a “chance encounter” and meet Reid in my place?
“No.”
I pulled the privacy curtain shut, my voice flat.
“I already told him we won’t be seeing each other for the next three months.”
“Vanessa, I’m shutting everything else out and focusing on losing weight. For the next three months, no one is going to interrupt me.”
I thought I had made myself perfectly clear, but Vanessa still refused to give up.
