I See the Face He Truly Loves Chapter 06

I See the Face He Truly Loves Chapter 06

Taking advantage of Dominic being away on a business trip, I moved all my belongings out of our home.

I had secured a new place for myself beforehand. I packed all my belongings into boxes and hired a moving

company.

It only took three hours for me to clean up six years’ worth of memories.

I took everything that belonged to me: my clothes in the closet, the different bottles on the vanity, the half-read book on the bedside cabinet, my cups, and my hair clips.

I also took the marriage certificate from the drawer, the apron I had bought in the kitchen, my bowls, plates, and utensils, as well as the potted jasmine that I had been taking care of on the balcony.

Michelle came with me to help with the move. She stood in the living room and spun in a circle. “What about the rest?” she asked.

“I don’t want them anymore,” I replied.

“Even the couch? You spent six months choosing that one.”

“It’s too big. It won’t fit in my new place,” I said as I looked at the couch.

Michelle didn’t say another word.

Finally, I opened the closet.

Dominic’s clothes were neatly arranged on his side. Meanwhile, my side was completely empty. The hangers swayed slightly from side to side.

I placed the divorce agreement that I had signed on the coffee table. I then placed a red, woven bracelet on top of it.

Dominic had given the bracelet to me when he was seven years old. The bell that was attached to it was already

rusty.

I left a note next to the bracelet. “It’s too heavy now. I can’t wear it anymore.”

I left the keys on the cabinet next to the door. Then I took one last look at the house before closing the door.

We had picked the couch together. The curtains that hung from the windows were personally sewn by me. A vase of flowers that I had arranged the day before sat on the dining table,

I didn’t take any of those things with me.

Michelle waited for me in the car. She started the engine when I got inside.

“Did you cry?” she asked.

“No.”

She glanced at me but didn’t call me out on the lie.

My new home faced north. It wasn’t very big. The windows were open, giving me a good view of the children running around downstairs.

I placed my suitcases down and stood in the empty living room.

Sunlight streamed in through the windows.

I started writing in the old diary that was placed at the very top of my suitcase when I was seven years old.

I wrote about how I became acquainted with the boy next door on the first page. His name was Dominic Hatterson, and he cried when he fell down. When I closed my eyes after pulling him back up to his feet, I saw myself in a dress in my mind.

I closed the diary and placed it in the bottom drawer of my bedside cabinet.

Dominic didn’t return from his business trip until two days later.

Michelle texted me that night, telling me that he was standing outside the home that we used to share.

“Leave him be,” I replied.

I received another message from Michelle half an hour later.

Dominic had crouched down and buried his face between his knees. Apparently, he was actually crying.

I didn’t reply.

Two hours later, Michelle informed me that Dominic had left.

At midnight, Dominic texted me, asking me where I had gone and why my things had disappeared. When he tried to call me, I switched off my phone.

He then tried calling me with another number, but I didn’t answer.

He resorted to texting me next. “I’m begging you, Cassandra. Please pick up the phone.”

He called me again at 3:00 am.

Michelle was the one who picked up, saying, “She’s asleep.”

Dominic fell silent for a long time. “Did she eat?” he asked hoarsely.

Michelle hung up on him.

He sent one final message at 4:00 am. “The power that you talked about the other day. Is it actually real, Cassandra?”
