I See the Face He Truly Loves Chapter 05

I See the Face He Truly Loves Chapter 05

It was 9:00 pm when I called Michelle.

“I need you to pick me up,” I said.

“Now?” she asked.

“Yes.”

Michelle arrived 20 minutes later. She didn’t say anything when she entered the house and saw the things on the coffee table. Instead, she simply helped me move my boxes into her car.

My phone lit up when Michelle drove us away from the residential area.

Dominic had sent me a message.

“Tiana’s running a pretty high fever. I’m going to accompany her to the hospital so she can get an IV drip. We can continue our conversation tomorrow when I get home.”

Michelle glanced at me as she maneuvered the steering wheel with one hand. “Where are we going?” she asked.

“I’m going to need to stay with you for now,” I replied.

“What about him?”

“He’s accompanying someone else to get an IV drip.”

Michelle bit her lip but didn’t question me further.

I leaned against the car window. The glass was cool against my skin. I placed a hand on my empty stomach.

“It’s not that Daddy didn’t know about you, sweetheart,” I thought to myself. “He just thought that something else was more important.”

Dominic called me the next afternoon. I answered the call.

“You’re not home, Cassandra? What’s the meaning of the report on the coffee table?” he asked.

“It’s an ultrasound report of your child,” I replied.

Dominic fell silent on the other end of the line.

“When you mentioned that you were pregnant last night…”

“It’s gone.”

“I had no idea, Cassandra. I thought that you just wanted me to accompany you for a regular check-up. Tiana’s fever is quite severe-”

“I know,” I interrupted him. “I know that she caught a high fever. 101 degrees, right? You listened to every word she said, but you didn’t pay any attention to me when I was six weeks pregnant. You told me to wait for you to continue our talk, but all I saw was your back as you walked away.”

Dominic didn’t say a single word.

“Dominic, did you even spare a glance at me before you left last night?”

I could only hear the sounds of Dominic’s breathing on the other end of the line.

“You didn’t. You didn’t look back even once.”

I hung up after I was done speaking.

A moment later, Michelle poked her head out from the kitchen, holding two glasses of water. “What did he say?”

“He said that she was suffering from a very high fever.”

Michelle slammed the glasses on the table. “He doesn’t have a shred of humanity within him.”

“He just prioritized someone else over me,” I said.
