I See the Face He Truly Loves Chapter 07

I See the Face He Truly Loves Chapter 07

I mailed the divorce agreement to Dominic’s company. I used registered mail and saved the tracking number, but I didn’t receive any response from him.

Michelle soufided even more anxious than me when she called me to ask for an update.

“He hasn’t signed it yet?” she asked.

“No.”

“Did you rush him?”

“No.”

“Aren’t you even a little impatient to get it over with?”

I looked at the maple tree outside the window. It had nearly lost all of its leaves.

“The terms are stated clearly in the agreement, Michelle. How many more days can he delay the inevitable?”

Michelle fell silent for a moment.

“I heard from Xavier that he’s been in a slump,” she said in a hushed voice. “He hasn’t shaved, and he’s always distracted during meetings. He stays in the office until the middle of the night and refuses to leave, no matter who tries to convince him to go home.”

“That’s his problem.”

“You don’t feel sorry for him at all?”

I gripped my phone, digging my nails into my palm. “I had a miscarriage, Michelle. When he was taking photos of another person at the beach, I was lying on the operating table by myself. I had to sign the surgery consent form by myself too. Why should I feel sorry for him?”

It was completely silent on the other end of the line. A long time passed before Michelle finally apologized.

“It’s fine,” I said before hanging up.

I stood in front of the window for a long time. I finally turned around and sat at the table when my legs started to grow numb and continued working on my design drafts.

Dominic texted me a few days later.

“Let’s meet and have a proper talk, Cassandra.”

I stared at the message for two seconds before replying, “Fine.”

We agreed to meet at the cafe in Astral Tower.

I deliberately arrived ten minutes late. A cold breeze billowed into my collar when I pushed the door open, making me shrink my neck back.

Dominic was seated in a corner with two cups of coffee in front of him. One of them was a latte, and the other one was plain, black coffee.

It was obvious that he had lost weight. His chin was sharper, his collar was wrinkled, and his shirt was buttoned

incorrectly.

In the past, Dominic would always get me to check his appearance before he left the house. His collar had to be perfectly straight, and his cufflinks had to match. Now, he couldn’t even take care of himself.

When he pushed the latte to me, I said, “You didn’t drink coffee in the past.”

Dominic was briefly stunned. An anxious glint flickered in his eyes before he replied, “I remember that you drink lattes.”

“That’s Tiana,” I retorted. “I don’t drink coffee. I never have. You just forgot.”

Dominic slowly retracted his hand.

He opened his mouth and told me all sorts of things-how he hadn’t treated me well, how he was a bastard, and how apologetic he felt toward me. He also mentioned that we had been together for 21 years, so he couldn’t just throw away our relationship.

He said that he could cut down his work to spend more time with me. He also said that he could send Tiana away. He could either transfer her to another branch company or force her to resign. He told me that he was willing to change as long as I gave him another chance.

I listened to Dominic and didn’t interrupt his rambling. When he was finally done, I pulled out my phone and scrolled through it until I found a screenshot of a message.

The message was from him.

“I have to go on a last-minute business trip. I’ll be back the day after tomorrow. Tell the driver to send you to the hospital if you’re feeling unwell. I love you.”

“I was six weeks pregnant that day, Dominic,” I said. “When I told you that the prenatal check-up was at 9:00 am, you promised to go with me. But in the end, you told me that you had to go on a last-minute business trip in the morning. You didn’t show up, so I had to go to the hospital by myself.”

I locked my phone and placed it gently on the table.

“The hallway was filled with other husbands with their wives. I was the only one who was alone. When the doctor gave me a shot to stabilize my pregnancy, I came across Tiana’s social media account.

“The two of you were at the beach. She was smiling while you took photos of her. Your hand was visible in the bottom right corner of the photo. You were still wearing our wedding band on your finger.”

The color slowly drained from Dominic’s face.

“I started bleeding at 10:00 pm that night. I had to hail a cab to the emergency room and sign the surgery consent form by myself. After that, I tried calling you while I was lying on the operating table, but your phone was switched off. I texted you, but you only came back the next afternoon.”

I pulled out a folder from my bag and placed it in front of him. Inside were my ultrasound report, an emergency medical bill, and the surgery consent form for my miscarriage.

Only my signature was on the dotted line for all three documents.

I had just undergone surgery at the time, so my hands were still shaking, causing my signature to come out wobbly.

Dominic opened the folder and flipped through the documents. His hands started trembling when he laid eyes on

the surgery consent form.

He looked up at me with bloodshot eyes. “I didn’t know, Cassandra. I truly had no idea that you were pregnant. I didn’t know that you were in the hospital.”

He stood up, walked around the table, and came to my side. He sank to his knees next to me, taking my hand.

“Please give me another chance. Just one more chance.”

I looked down at him and pulled my hand away. “You no longer have me in your heart, Dominic. Sign the divorce, papers.”

I stood up and pushed the folder in his direction. I then walked out of the cafe.

Dominic was still on his knees when I looked at him through the glass windows, clutching the surgery consent

form.

I turned around and left.

The sun was shining brightly in the sky.

On my way home, I stopped by the grocery store to buy some ribs and vegetables. I planned to make some stew for myself that night.
